Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

I think we can all agree.....

that VH & Icahn both are bad for employees. Either way, we are doomed. Props to VH that she didn't do layoffs in 2016 but the Anadarko deal was a shot to the head which will lead to mass layoffs in 2-3 months. Feel terrible for those employees who did not reallocate their 401K for the oxy stock they received as the match. As for Icahn, his trail of apathy towards employees of companies he associates with is well known.

One bunch of people I won't feel sorry for are the overpaid, nincompoop & unethical middle management. The worse group of managers I've seen in my career over multiple companies. I guess the sh*t really floats to the top and we are seeing the consequence of it today.

Who would have thought that Oxy, one of the few stalwarts outside of the Standard Oil family, celebrating 100 years in 2020 would be a candidate for bankruptcy

Is it just me, or is this site more indicative of how employees view Oxy then those BS “anonymous” surveys they make us take in Oxy? I don’t think management ever took those things seriously anyways.

@wco+13Z8y4LU: There’s always politics in an organization. But when politics overwhelmingly dictates promotions and performance over hard work and merit, that is when the corporate culture and productivity begins to collapse. Good luck Oxy!

Also started with large capitol expenditures starting three years ago on data automation which in reality has worked very little. Too many errors and constant expensive fixes. Plus has not really brought any value to the company. Not sustainable and needs to start being accounted for. What’s the $$$ value? This is not in regards to automation for production and wellsite management.

The downhill path started when the Apache Mafia was brought in, in my opinion. These Apache managers brought in their cronies from Apache, and there was a culture clash; that is when I noticed that some bad decisions were being made.

I totally agree with you. Both VH (and some of her useless execs) and Icahn are bad for the company. While many people on this board blame everything on VH and the execs, I think some of those on the middle management level are equally responsible for where we are today. VH trusted the wrong people and she were probably not informed of many truths. Over the past few years, we saw too many cases of overpromised but undelivered, and the unethical people who did these intentionally were getting promotions, from individual contributors to leads/managers, managers to directors, from directors to GM. On the other hand, naysayers were pushed out and down. It had encouraged more and more people to behave the same way. This may not be the culture over the entire company, which is why I think many don't realize VH is not the only one that needs to be held accountable for our situation. How many times were we pressured to highlight only the successful cases and no one would ever bring up the rest that are failures? In Resources, it's all about politics. If you are a favorite of J Bennet, you have the immunity to do whatever you want in his #family, ethical or not.
