@xt @z5 Hours worked is rarely a measure of productivity. Look at how much Cisco spends on bug fixing and it's clear much of development's contribution is net negative.

I've worked with people at Cisco from all over the world. Even the few who would be exceptional in another environment were managed to be at best useless at Cisco. The problem is corporate culture.

@xt

My team members in India work way more hours than the US members

that is not true, they just give you that perception. If true, lets move everything to them csco stock will split multiple times over and over again.

@ss I'm in a similar exact position to @ss+1kpykrvya.
I am 77 according to Cisco’s rule of 70. I enjoy the work and my team. I'm not coasting, but I'm not working weekends either. The place has changed a lot in the last 10 years. The center of has gravity moved from CA to India, but fortunately the "working hours" clock is still on US time. My team members in India work way more hours than the US members. The Indian engineers work hard at managing upwards and never push back, while the US team will speak their minds. I feel like I'm the last of the Mohicans. My time is near, but no reason to quit.

@w7 Reading is fundamental, buddy. The 79 is the rule of 70 math, not his actual age.

I am 79 according to Cisco’s rule of 70. Love my job and teams, and still producing. I have trained leaders to take my place and they deserve the opportunity. If ER happens I will be thrilled except for leaving people behind. Otherwise, I will keep doing my job and hoping for an LR? I am fortunate enough to not need the money, but a “wh--e” so will not “leave money on the table” by voluntarily leaving.

I’m over here at MSFT right now. They’ve only announced what qualifies ER, the package will announced in May. I will say the tenured folks need to go. Every single one I’ve met is in the “rest and vest” mode. They bring zero innovation and when innovation is put in front of them, they say “we did that back in ‘99 and it didn’t work”. I see a “congrats to Karen on her 30 yr anniversary” all the time. It’s the only place they’ve worked their entire career.

The MSFT tenured employees need to go! I hope it will be a nice package to send them off.

I was at Cisco when Chambers did his ER and when Chuck did it during Covid. Spending time in MSFT, I can see why Cisco offboards tenured employees.

@h6 what i do not understand is how come it take a company 25 years to realize employee needs PIP? suddenly employee became brain dead or what?

csco does forced ER...

The ERs at Cisco I saw came with a year's salary and health insurance to drive top talent to their competitors the following Monday. The only "force" was from kind managers that let the weak know they'd be laid off a few weeks later with a much smaller package. They had no trouble using LRs and PIPs for disposing large numbers of old people over the last 25 years.

csco does forced ER, once they offer, you must accept it.

Cisco doesn't offer ER anymore. They may again sometime, but have stated no more ERs in past rounds of LR

So what do they offer for this ?
X number of salaries ? What is the value of X?
Not seeing the advantage of giving up a few good years of steady income for a few months' salary

Rule of 70 is nothing more than a metric to mesaure how they treat your LR package. You pretty much need to be in your 50's to qualifty as it's age+years of service = min 70. 55+15=70. It sometimes (generally speaking) can be applied to ER qualification and/or RSU accelerated vesting, or simply the # of weeks of severance you get during a LR event. Cisco has not offered ER since 2020 I believe.

"70 rule" is not ER - it just means that your already one year RSU will fully invest if you leave CISCO for any reason once you satisfied 70 rule . I think this started on 2023 and covered the RSU from 2024 on. Of course, as per US IRS rule, all that will be in your W2 as regular income...

This won't impact that many folks at Microsoft, but even if it is a performative exercise, at least it lets folks keep their dignity while also letting the company reduce headcount, and the folks who choose to leave can have a nice sendoff without being escorted out by security etc
