Thread regarding PNC layoffs

Loss of Productivity

I was reading this Wharton article about how small slights from employers cause a loss of productivity. link to article: https://penntoday.upenn.edu/news/penn-wharton-when-employees-feel-slighted-they-work-less

PNC better get ready for this on a grand scale. Obviously, RTO increases costs for employees (parking, gas, additional child care, loss of time because of the commute, the list goes on). But we’ve also lost our personal day out of nowhere, HSA wellness contributions have gone down significantly, and rumor has it that bonuses will leave a lot to be desired. All in one year. This company is ran by CLOWNS. I encourage everyone to use every second of every occasional absense day in 2026. Don’t work a minute past 5pm. Don’t even think about logging in on the weekend. They take, take, take and only give back to the C Suite. Don’t give them anything more than the bare minimum, because PNC sure isn’t going to give you anything.

@1jv If CoPilot replaces everyone it won't take long for this place to go down in flames. That things can run anything.

@1gv Perhaps. But I think there’s a lot more than a few hundred employees who are upset. There were thousands of employees who did not work 5 days in an office prior to Covid. Are they supposed to just pretend like that wasn’t the case? Many had flexible work because the nature of their jobs required them to work outside of the typical 8-5. These aren’t your yes-men in meetings all day. These are the people with technical skills that keep the company infrastructure going. They can’t all be replaced by Copilot and if enough of them decide to take a stand, it will be noticed.

The larger the organization, the less impact individuals have. One member of a rock band leaves and they stop playing til they find a replacement. One offensive lineman on a football team goes out and there’s at least two other guys ready to go in with a little tweak from the rest of the team. A few hundred employees in a 70,000 National company get ticked off…. Barely a ripple. They won’t feel it, won’t notice it, and probably won’t even ask about the situation in 6 months. It’s done. Bill treats this with about as much weight as which starch to accompany his entree.

@vz. Nice try but no. I don’t care what you assume about me or anyone else, but perhaps a voice of reality may help. After everyone is done screaming and whining and filing for exemptions, and after everyone who wants to leave does, and everyone settles in to whatever the new normal is, Bill will look back and say “See? That wasn’t so bad”. He nor anyone else will care about hard stops at 5:00 or office walk outs or mass call outs. He doesn’t care, and can’t care, about you and me. He cares, and should care, about the shareholders’ value.
I really do wish you a good outcome in all of this; we all need it.

@tp I’m assuming you’re the same person responding to “Jan” all over these threads. The typical troll, trolling on about the typical things, taking pleasure in being a garbage human. You and Bill have a lot in common in that regard.
No wonder you’ve been defending him so hard. You’re the type of coworker the rest of us will avoid like the plague once we’re forced to be in your presence again.

I might take you more seriously if you learned how to spell, use proper grammar, and/or proof your posts. But even beyond all that, to think that the 6th largest bank in the country has a single fleeting thought about any one person’s attitude and productivity is ludicrous. YOU don’t show up? Someone else will do the work. YOU or WE don’t work past 5? No one will notice or care. Most people do whatever work is needed to meet their job objectives. It takes you 30 hours and me 50? So be it. Dems da breaks. Like Blade Runner: we’re all a tear drop in rain. “We” don’t matter and “we” don’t impact a damn thing. The sooner you realize that, the better off and happier you’ll be. And all those lemmings who follow this attitude will be the same ones griping about “only a “meets all” ratings and middling raises next year.

There was a time not so long ago that I would have countered this argument. “Rise above it” and “if everyone slows down then you speed up” and all that. But like a fine wine, I’m left wondering “is this any good?” After decades in the industry I have to agree with you, which if I’m being honest, hurts just a little bit.
