Thread regarding Ford layoffs

m plate driving under the influence

Anyone ever get a DUI in a company car? What will happen, do you have to say anything? She hasn’t been convicted yet. Asking for a coworker.

The waterloo office was the worst for non-business use of vehicles.
They would be taken out for long distance family trips and joyrides.

@vz

The email didn’t say anything about DUIs specifically. More reminding people that to drive the vehicles you need a valid business and test case. And you can only drive up to four consecutive overnight drives a month. I took it as more that they’re cracking down on personal usage and trying to audit it more closely.

I wonder if there was some instances where a lot of people were using the vehicles simply for personal reasons and not even updating software or performing any test cases.

@vz She got a DUI using an M plate? Company can fire you for several reasons, this is probably one of them. Just don't drink and drive in any car.

@sm My daughter was let go because of this. What did the email say? Are there any policies on how this is supposed to be handled?

Is this the reason MJ just sent out an email about M plate usage?

@g3 Some jurisdictions around Metro Detroit hand out weekend jail time for first offense. It's not worth it

Over the years I've seen more than a few M-plates valet parked at Strip Clubs around town. No one ever drinks at a Strip Club. O.o

@ar+1k91dw8xg That sort of thing happened quite a lot with M plates and management lease cars. A LL6 buddy had a F150 management lease vehicle. His LL5 asked him to swap lease vehicles for the weekend as he “needed” a truck. Monday afternoon my buddy gets a call to tell him the truck was at VSC. Story came out later that the LL5 did a bit of partying and soliciting.

@fy Could be the result of MI OWI laws not Ford. Rehab is often court ordered on second offense. The third offense is a felony and driving privileges are often revoked or breath ignition switches required which Ford will not do on M plates. The vehicle is also subject to forfeiture.

@fy+1k91dw8xg in the last 5-7 years it seems they have become more strict likely due to changing public opinion around DUI. But then again it also depends on if you are on the friends and family plan. The only one I saw who got fired for drinking while driving plowed a F250 thru a row of new Focuses stored in FMCC lot. Bystanders called the police who pulled him over on Mercury drive, the dude didn’t even stop after plowing thru the Focuses. Yup he was a leader. His peers were looking for an opportunity to oust him as he was a flaming je-k, and he gave it to them.

Knew a guy who racked up 3 DUI's while driving M plates. Nothing happened with the first one. 2nd one he was sent to Rehab. 3rd one he was terminated.

@dz+1k91dw8xg Shining example of everything wrong with Ford. That same drunk caused a 48 hour outage as a consequence of working while drunk. Woohoo lets celebrate and promote the drunks. Long live the Ford unwritten culture

@e6 a drive thru the D tells you how the D societal norms has worked out. The majority of the D is a decaying cesspool. Mile after mile of abandoned neighborhoods. Oh of course there are a few carefully curated areas like the riverfront that politicians use as example of the D comeback. LMAO
Rather sounds like F, a decaying company, but oh look at this shiny train station and oh look at the race car driver.
Oh but at least the diehard D residents and F employees are self medicating themselves into blissful oblivion.

@dv We do things our own way in the D. Go back to California if you don't like it, we're not big fans of your societal norms here either.

@ds Thats funny. Thats what the drunk LL6 was calling the GSRs as he shot nails at them “wu-sies”. Irresponsible drinking does tend to be normalized in Metro Detroit. LOL

Two years later that same drunk LL6 tipped a backhoe over at a Henry Ford Gardens community service event while drunk. The year after that he fell off a stack of hay bales at a Zoo Boo community service event while drunk. Consistency worked well for his career.

@dr What's wrong with using power tools while drinking? That's the way my dad did it, and his dad before him. The world has gotten so wu-sified it's not even funny. Sounds like a fun group.

@da I can see Ford in different countries not wanting irresponsible employees. Ford in UK is pretty strict with drink-driving where Ford in Dearborn is lush city (top down).

Jeez we had a community service event with Habitat for Humanity. An LL6 brought refreshments for the team (multiple coolers of beer). There were five LL6 in attendance. One left as soon as she saw the coolers of beer and jello shots, the other four were drunk by lunch. Habitat for Humanity asked everyone to leave shortly after lunch as one LL6 was shooting a nail g-n at other peoples feet. It boggles my mind to this day how grown men (50+) thought it was ok to drink while using power tools and while they were representing the company. And yes they all drove drunk and most met at a bar to continue drinking.

I knew someone who got a DUI while driving an m-plate. She didn't get fired, but a few years later when she accepted an internal l overseas promotion she had to do a background check and it came out. Her offer was pulled.

What everyone says, "If you get pulled over driving an m-plate, park in a private lot. Cops might not tow a car if it's parked in a parking lot, but they definitely will of its on the side of the road. You can get a coworker to pick up the vehicle later as long as it isn't impounded."

Oh heck @cr+1k91dw8xg even if the vehicle gets impounded absolutely nothing will happen. Saw it happen repeatedly over a span of 25 years.
One LL6 came into work one morning sans shoelaces and in the same clothes he had on the day before. He had gotten picked up on DUI, spent the night in jail (where they had confiscated shoelaces due to concern of using laces for self harm), Ford picked up the car from impound lot and drove it to WHQ VSC and the LL6 drove the car home that evening. I’d like to say it was an isolated incident, but it wasn’t not even with this LL6. The joke was several of our leaders were uninsurable so it was a good thing they had a management lease car. In some areas it seemed that only alcoholics were in leadership positions.

Never been caught.
As long as they don't impound the vehicle I doubt Ford would find out

A story that went around about 10 years ago is there was a LL3 who was soliciting prost---tion on 8mi in an M-plate. Vehicle was impounded, tech went and got the vehicle, everything hush hush, swept under the rug, aka no one fired. Here you have some fat comp a--hole driving m plates to pick up prost---tes. Like at least take your own car. These are the people who lead us…
