Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

If I had 10c on the dollar.

If I had 10 cents for every dollar wasted over the past 15 years, I'd be wealthy. From IT solutions and overstaffing to training and firing thousands of nurses, plus failed EMRs and workforce management, the waste is staggering. Worse, those responsible were paid handsomely for poor results and received golden parachutes when their failures became clear.

@vy I was at Humana 16 years and took the last ERP offered. I agree with the poor planning/ management and wasting money observations. They hired a lot of social workers at one time then promptly fired them all a few months later. I have observed poor management and cliques all thinking they are all-knowing and superior without any evidence of ability or basic intelligence. I have worked with some good people who eventually moved on. There is a lot of frustration with the constant changes and updates that fail to improve the working day. My advice to anyone would be take advantage of any free learning or tuition reimbursement, e.g. green belt, etc., save money and do the best you can to ignore the nonsense.

@c8 So some truths here. I am the 'Not your friend' poster.

I worked at Humana for 11 years and managed to avoid several different layoffs. My dislike for Humana is not based on the regular associates but for senior management and the board. I was fortunate and grew within the company, during this time I made a huge effort to spend wisely and save hard. Financially Humana was a huge benefit for me but ultimately I was shocked to see the disloyalty to employees who had dedicated them selves to the job and also to the waste. At that time all Managers and above held a credit card. First line managers had their expenses scrutinized by the department head and expenses were tightly controlled. As I grew in the company I was shocked to see the level of abuse and waste through expenses.

The process of procuring or developing IT solutions or EMR systems was so inefficient. I know of several multi million dollar systems that were ditched just before implementation. There was upto my recent history at the company an EMR UM system that was so antiquated all pages were called up with keyboard strokes. So much for 'one screen one dream'

I recall working at HAH. We recruited 100's or RN's one year based on the mythical ROI. Within months we were laying those same people off. So thats recruitment, Computers, Office Space, Training.....
I eventually fell to a RIFF. after 11 years and in my early 60's No real hope of a comparable job but as I said, I saved hard and spent wisely. I am okay.

When I was on boarded in 2011 we were all given a hard back book regarding Humana's history. It was a pointless bit of self promotion but none the less interesting. It talked about the founders and their drive for the product but by the time I got there you could see the vision was lost.

What could have been a great company was in my view misdirected by Bruce Broussard. He was on the surface a casual chatty guy but at the same time he was a cut throat who was bound and determined to sell Humana.

Hope that clears up my incompetence statement.

@b3 I want to apologize for that incompetency wisecrack, I had made.

I took your “I am not your friend” comment personally but that was no excuse for me to have responded with an unkind word. I am sorry.

I hope you have been able to weather the layoffs unscathed and are doing well. Take care.

Fair enough, we are not friends. And please don’t stress over being incompetent; it will come easier to you.

I am not your friend. The real issues are incompetence on an industrial scale and waste that kept the bars of Louisville alive at night.

There is a major difference between corporate resource waste and outright business corruption and unethical employment practices, my friend.

I sincerely hope your post was not an attempt to deflect from the real issues that Humana faces and has had a history of this that goes back 5-10 years, if not more.
