If last week hadn't happened I would've said yes to you, but Monday three of the team was laid off. I really thought I knew the pattern so I was taken off guard.
Yes, but it's unusual these days. A very large majority do not work during their notice period.

Mostly, the Tuesday after payday. But there have been reorg layoffs on other days and weeks.
Generally after a payday week on the following Tuesday seems to be the norm.
