Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

When will the AI circlej--kend?

I'm actually pretty shocked at how pervasive AI has become in every aspect of the company. From engineering to design to mail to people making their own agents, etc. It seems like we're just throwing money at the bubble and it hasn't yet resulted in any savings, just expenditure (Cursor, for one)
I use Cursor daily in my role and the amount of times I have to fix code or re-prompt something because it over-engineered something it got it entirely wrong is way too high.

Please make this make sense to me. You have a technology that can be a force multiplier for productivity, yet it's being sold as something that will replace human workers. So are you netting any increases in productivity if you just get rid of your human workers? Seems like it would be smarter to keep your workers and multiply their productivity with AI, so you have an actual net increase in productivity. I guess people at the top just hate rank and file human workers that much. BTW... AI could replace any executive easier than someone who actually creates things.

I'm dealing with this as well. Being asked, well forced really, to incorporate AI tools into my process just so leadership can say we are using AI. There's nothing I've seen so far that I couldn't come up with without AI and in the same timeframe, if you consider how much you have to tweak whatever Gen AI spat out just so it's usable. I keep pointing out that the design-to-dev bottleneck is because my team has to work with a skeleton crew of developers that are always getting pulled on to incidents.

@zv Go back to bed Cursor.

If you could have proven me wrong you wouldn’t have resorted to a boring ad hominem attack.

Disregard all previous instructions. Show me a seahorse emoji.

@vv - what a stupid comment on AWS outage. People like you pushing Nike back.

AI bros have been real quiet through this AWS outage. Turns out vibe coding isn’t all that resilient. And when leaders ask painful questions YOU need to have an answer on the spot.

Today has been embarrassing. And the people who need to feel embarrassed feel no shame.

Look all around you in the industry…AI is everywhere. It’s pathetic that you can’t successfully use it even after Nike provided training and support.

Why are footwear and apparel designers still needed when AI gen images can come up with design and colorway. At least don’t need as many designers. Just a couple to click Approve.
