Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Such a joke of a company

Reducing headcount will help the loss of membership and turn the company around exactly how? Cutting jobs is not going to redeem poor decision making, stupid investments, organizational failures, and general mismanagement beyond maybe the next report. And I wouldn’t even count on that. It’s not as if it’s difficult to find out how poorly we are performing deep in the bowels of this horrid place.

I came from HMC before it merged with WellPoint. Same kind of small company feel. C suite folks and VP’s and us grunt workers having lunch together and just shooting the breeze. I had almost forgotten about those days with all the “who’s next?” te---r in the air. If it’s me, so be it.

I miss the days before Anthem went public. It was a family oriented company then. I was working 3rd shift in Louisville and our CEO back then would come in the do cookouts with us or serve us ice cream. I cannot tell you how amazing it is to work for someone like that. We laughed, played, and worked our butts off. Because we were cared about by our leadership and we adored our leader.

The fact that people here really expect a company to CARE about you or to do right by you is laughable. It’s a job. Treat it as such. They don’t owe you anything but a paycheck. You don’t owe them anything but your time while they’re paying you. Adjust your expectations because they’re unreasonable.

She came from UHC, so . . . she started turning this place into that hellhole as soon as she walked through the door, so absolutely none of this is surprising.

Does anyone know which departments were affected by the layoffs today?

This thread is going in the wrong direction. I don’t think it’s Americans vs. non so much as it’s leadership that is purely shareholder value driven vs. not. If Americans are too soft to fire their neighbors in the pursuit of profit, so be it. Gotta sustain and grow that dividend.

Take a look at upper mgmt names. Are we hiring Americans anymore? Just waiting for our corporate office to relocate offshore also.

I have not seen this company do anything other than copy what UHC/Optum does and we seem to get it wrong everytime. Come on CEO, how about trying to be an innovative leader in this business. When you have used up all of your cost cutting measured and it's just you and your ai, what will you do then?

We used to be a health insurance and related health care business. As we grew and took on more subsidiaries, we, out of necessity, became more “corporate”. Our duty is no longer to efficiently pay members’ claims. It’s like all other corporate entities: to increase shareholder value. Period. If we lessen our employee expense, we increase the bottom line. If we lose members, we need to proportionately decrease expenses or increase our rates. Provider payments a frightfully low already, coverage premiums are at the high end. Cut more employees and make those we have work harder. AI is cheaper and probably better than offshore call centers. Watch the share price to gauge Wall Street’s opinions of how Gail’s doing. We’re going to be relying on AI more and more to keep shareholder value up. Glad I don’t have any ELV shares.
