Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

A thread to mourn NOT being eliminated today

I had a lot of hope for getting JE’d today and spending summer with my severance before finding another job in the fall.

I have been with the company for nearly 13 years and my level of burnout is now nearly unbearable. I still enjoy what I do and will obviously continue as I have built a career on it. It’s just that, for the first time in my Cigna tenure, I find myself on a team being directed by a person who has no clue about the technical and logistical limitations of the requests they’re giving. This director is a person who clearly thinks that pushing harder will yield results no matter the roadblocks, and my direct manager is powerless (and somewhat of a wu-s).

So I am sad on this day because I didn’t get set free from the madness. Yes, I am looking for other roles both internally and externally. However, the severance would have made things much easier.

@1s4+1jtr5eaqh Yeah just let your boss know you want to be laid off if anyone has to be let go from your team. Do it ASAP so it can save someone’s job.

Is there really a way to volunteer to be laid off with a severance? I would gladly leave tomorrow!

I was JE’d last week, 5/8. We were sitting ducks; we knew it was coming. There have been so many layoffs around us. I was in the Provider & Learning Development area. 12 of us were JE. My two closest coworkers had both been there 30+ years and one is battling stage 4 br---t cancer. I had been there 16 years. I didn’t mind my job, but they had fired so many of the most knowledgeable people and what was left or what was hired couldn’t find themselves out of a wet paper bag. I’m sad to lose my benefits but not sad about the JE itself.

@vk+1jtr5eaqh Yeah we had someone who let it known that she would want to be laid off if cuts came to the team and they picked her for the last round of layoffs.

All I see is horrible changes forcing people to resign now, all to avoid severance. This signing up to be layed off sounds like a myth, anyone actually seen this done recently? Maybe before, but new plan seems to just keep turning up the heat, and it’s working. New resignation every other day, and our workload just gets heavier and heavier.

Nobody cares, work harder.

You can always volunteer for the next round. No need to be upset you missed this round. If you want to go, tell your manager so that they can potentially save someone else's job
