Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

If you are a C & E Engineer affected by Layoffs..

Look into employment by the contract firm that renders our engineering drawings. They usually can hold you over if you need something immediately. T is known to bring back employees previously surplused, at times, so you may be called back in awhile. Best wishes.

Lots of people left and came back as contractor and are milking T. No one checking on this… former employees know how to play system and make numbers look good.
We need new people with integrity.

There is life after AT&T, and much better managed companies. Former engineer here working on cutting edge technology, so unlike the antiquated main frame systems AT&T was band-aiding to keep it running. The leadership has no idea, just barking orders to intimidate people to take the work on of others that don't step up to the plate themselves. So much fluff off time by 2nd, 3rd and 4th level managers.

If you are involuntarily let go, you can work for a firm doing work for T. 6 month period only applies to voluntary.

Contract firms are in need of the skills you have. They pay well, have benefits, and are easy to find.

I had a job before my last day. There are opportunities for you - if you choose to pursue them. Best of luck if you got the call this morning.

@vag+1leqJnD7 Those engineering companies get around that rule by allowing the new hire to work under a pseudo name. Only after the 6 months will they allow you to work under your own name. Loopholes!!

Current engineers are merely project managers kicking everything to contractors anyway.

The company is working their way through different organizations, I was previously in TFS/I&M org and the last few years they have reduced it to a shell of its former self through surpluses and attrition. They aren’t backfilling those FT/ST positions, just spreading the peanut butter, you can forget about work life balance if you’re a tech.

Managers that are left now have larger areas of responsibilities which brings more work groups and head count under them. Techs used to have a turf but now they are required to cover many turfs which results in a lot more travel and forced OT in busy months early spring thru fall. They also have to work a lot more weekends due to reductions. With loss of experienced managers and new inexperienced ones that only cared about the dashboard and bonuses it became a toxic environment so I and many others moved on to other orgs. We had enough harassment!

Interesting that they would be laying off Engineers, yet I continue to get solicited every week from LinkedIn recruiters about contract engineer jobs for T.

If current employment is causing a pension to accrue, pension law may preclude hiring by an AT&T contractor for 6 months.
