Thread regarding Chevron Phillips Chemical layoffs

How much does your experience depend on the manager?

I’ve switched teams a few times, and only one of them was great. The manager there was a decent guy, rare in this place. He listened to feedback, got to know the team, and played to our strengths. We outperformed, and for once, I actually enjoyed coming to work. Once you’ve had good management, you start to realize just how bad the rest of it usually is, and how much that ruins the job. Why has bad management become so normal?

@12v Don't forget those imposters that moved their way up on the backs of other's hard work. Those need to go too. A lot of them are nothing more than hot air.

@124 too many people who come to work and do minimum. Then they have many yrs of working experience but no knowledge. It s not CPC's problem. We live in a cruel world. It s no one's job to take care of laggers. They chose to live that way

@11r you don't know what that person knows. You are cruel to stay that. I wish you the best. Ignore the negative people that comment on here. They think they are protected. Stay strong. Stay positive. It will be ok.

@111 sounds like you don't have much process knowledge. If you are good, then you can find a job somewhere else next day. only laggers worry about jobs.

@va LTI is taking everyone's job and looking to take on more. They are now targeting the process groups. Going through the knowledge transfer is tough. If you don't tell them what they want to know, you don't get your severance money. I've been crying everyday. I feel like trash. They don't care that they destroyed my career and self worth. It's easy to say su-k it up but if you are not going through this you have no right to comment.

“Management decides to bring in outside employees from Xmobil for jobs that CPC employees could have filled right before all of this happened and now capable CPC employees are being laid off. The new employees are letting people down and underperforming. The “one team” mentality is no longer there and everyone at HQ is tense and fearful knowing a second round of layoffs is scheduled the first week of September. It’s not fair to drag it out when everyone already knows it’s coming and they have families to provide for. This is the first time in 25 years the culture has changed this drastically. Next round will be the service groups at HQ. Who will be left for round three??? Oh- I know, they can just hire more outsiders to replace them.”

It's not going to get any better. Middle management is the easiest to remove and other remaining managers will absorb willingly just to hold on to a job as long as possible. What was your name again? Bill, Bob? Rob! Expect less 1:1 contact and remembering your name, Tom!
