Cleaning toliets?

Booksellers are being asked to clean the store. Who has had to do this? Custodial staff not brought back.

I’ve been in two different BNs lately. The restrooms are disgusting & the Cafes are certainly not as clean as they should be.

I've been in several of the stores and they are disgusting. Everything looks beige because there is so much dust around! And the books look dirty because of it.
If you can't afford professional cleaners, just pull the plug already.

The managers and higher ups think they are doing a service by cutting us down. They are going to be in for a big surprise when they find out BN is closing for good and they too are out of a job.

B/N was cutting their maintenance staff big time years ago. 86th and Lex in NYC (now closed permanently), they let two of their maintenance staff go, leaving just 3 maintenance people left to clean a massive store. Near the end, they were asking staff to dust shelves because they never hired anyone else.

— Be grateful you have a job.

Wow, that sounds like something a nasty manager, or, the CEO would say

Wow, that sounds like something a nasty manager, or, the CEO would say. 👎🏻

It’s hard to feel grateful when people are treated like s**t.

Sears had employees cleaning restrooms in some of the stores too because Sears stiffed the cleaning company and didn't pay them. We had two guys volunteer to do it because they were guaranteed 40 hours a week, were scheduled from 6:00 am to 2:45 pm Monday through Friday on the days they worked, and rotated weekends off.

Lol. Minimum wage retail workers calling themselves “booksellers”. B–ching and moaning because they have to clean. Be grateful you have a job.

How many would-be future employees (if they ever hire new people again) are reading this page now?
Haha.

Hi, this is reminiscent of Borders, where the booksellers also had to take turns cleaning the bathrooms. Not cool, since staff is limited to begin with & J. Daunt is paying one person to do two different jobs, and in some cases more than that if they’re pulled off the retail floor to work in receiving!
Yeah, down with Daunt & BN.

Don't you need to have a contract to clean public restrooms? I see more lawsuits in BN's future if anyone gets sick.

This is low. I have seen BN bathrooms with feces smeared on the walls, and nothing was done about it. They are dirty places, no one should be asked to clean them. Down with BN.

Has anyone seen cleaning bathrooms in the Handbook?

Since there’s no cleaning company, we rotate cleaning the restrooms. When I have to ,I don’t touch anything. Except the counter. Pour cleaner on urinals, toilets & use the mop, then I mop the floor.
