Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

VDI is dog sh-t.

That is all. I should start tracking how many hours I waste because of it.

I'd rather use my own device then the slow / locked down POS I've been issued. If VDI sucks, oh well, it's obvious this company doesn't care about production anyway. I can always play with my phone while stuff loads.

@ute+1mN7AkpL Awww. Does technology frighten you great grandpa? It’s ok. Just clutch that Jitterbug tight to your body and hit THE button when you want to call me.

D-mb D-mbs like you make the world an easy place to excel in. When you don’t know what you’re talking about better to be quiet so nobody knows you’re a fool.

I would gladly access a VDI from a BYOD. I have teams outlook and workday on my personal phone. None of it can access anything else and it is not for the benefit I wells. It is absolutely for my benefit. Nothing like being “available “ but really laying around jackin it

Oh, and I wanted to add that if Outlook is taking that long to load, who cares? That's the bank's time and they're paying you to sit there and wait for it. At least, that's how I see it since they intentionally moved us to this technology.

@ute as a long-time WF technology worker, yes I want to use my personal machine.

It's publicly accessible via URL, which means no more multiple VPN drops every day (started at the beginning of covid and hasn't stopped since). Oh, you don't want to install the local client to run it?

Hello VirtualBox and a free, unlicensed version of Windows.

Want to browse po-n while working without WF knowing? Ok, minimize that window and use your normal browser. Or, better yet, move that window to the corner and the browser to the other side. Now you can browse and occasionally click back into the VM to register movement or respond to inquiries.

Oh, your metrics on computer use aren't up to snuff? Install a macro/jiggler program on the Virtualbox image and make it look like you're naturally moving the mouse, while still having full use of the mouse on your home desktop.

Stop being scared and learn to use the same technology to your advantage. Set it up properly and you can work from anywhere in the world while looking like you're working from the US. All this cloud and virtualization technology can be used to empower the worker if you know how to use it.

FRTO and VDI

Agreed. VDI is garbage, and it's getting worse. I used to allow 20 minutes each morning for log in. For the past few weeks, I've needed approx 30 minutes. Outlook, alone, takes about 20 minutes to load.

Personally, VDI is basically the same. Web-based apps are a bit faster but everything feels slower because of the input latency. My settings stick for the most part, the dynamic scaling and lack of remembering window positions is even worse than it was on the laptop but that's a relatively minor cosmetic gripe that takes less than a minute to fix once everything is loaded.

My biggest gripe is using a WF machine to connect to it. Just let me use my personal machine already.

For me, I get brand new sessions when I log in to VDI. Brand new outlook settings set up, I lose all my OneNote books, Teams isn’t installed or set up. Plug-ins from Outlook to teams aren’t there.
Today I had to restart twice because the VDI client wouldn’t even load.
I can’t wait until the next survey - the part about ‘do you have the right tools to do your job?’ Is going to get a low mark from me.

I guess I’ll start blocking off my first hour each day so I don’t miss conference calls or anything else.

Can’t wait! Between RTO and VDI, I’ll never get work done.
