I just saw someone complaining about it, and I thought mine was the rare case of that happening:
They witheld my vacation time. Hadnt used a single day and HR made up some excuse to keep it.....
Same story! In the end I just shrugged it off because in that period I didn’t have the will to claim my rights. Now that I see that there are more people to whom this has happened, I come to the conclusion that I was no exception but that this was a very common practice for them???
After 20yrs with the company I was denied my vacation payout as well. Last day was in July and I didnt use a single day. Was planning an august vacation and then usually took time off for xmas. Windstream has to cut the legs out from under its employees so the LR5 can get those multi million dollar bonuses while the company is going under. They never missed a bonus while employees never got a raise. Its a disgraceful company to work for. I only had 3yrs with Windstream, was part of a CLEC they acquired. 40yrs in telecom and I have never seen a company this bad at every turn.
I left on Dec 31st and had 4 days of unused earned PTO—I got only 2 of those days paid...guess I was one of the lucky ones
The policy says even though all your days are available on Jan 1 that for payout purposes they accrue through the year. So if you leave in the middle of the year you get paid out for half your vacation assuming you used none. Optional Holiday and Sick Leave are not included in the calculation at all. You can't get it back. Which is why you should always use all of both first if you have a manager that is worth a damn.
Sh:$h–e. I had 26 years there. I had 6 weeks of vacation, NOT PTO. Gave them a 3 week notice. They paid me 4 days of my vacation. Okay that cheated me out of 5 weeks, over a month of pay I earned over 26 years. Now that shows you how much they appreciate your hard work doesn't it?
Yes, HR and the social media drones from the executive team monitor this site. It's better now than in the past. We had a big RIF a year ago and it blew up. HR tried to bury lots of posts .
I gave 4 weeks notice, stayed on for on call for and extra couple days, cleaned my truck spotless, turned in all my stuff, updated inventory...WS still stole 4 days of PTO on my way out of the door and would not give me a letter stating I wasnt working there anymore so I could get insurance at my new employer...lesson learned...WS is a SH!THOLE. T
So WS HR people are assigned to watch this site.
Vacation Payout Eligibility
In order to qualify for vacation payout, you are required to complete a full year of employment
with Windstream and provide a two-week working notice (ten days actually worked, not to
include time off). The formula used to calculate prorated vacation payout is the amount of
vacation eligible in a calendar year, divided by 12 months, multiplied by the amount of months
worked, minus the amount of hours taken. Vacation payouts are also administered in
accordance with state law, where applicable.

Depending on your state you should accrue time and get a prorated amount on exit.ill have to read the fine print from the HR manuual.
