Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Work IQ

In the midst of all the Riffing that is happening at Anthem, who’s LOB just added Work IQ to their computers this week? Any tips? Got to love the C-suite decision making here.

At this point I do not care. I take mental health naps on the job, since the stress is work-related. and I refuse to be told when to take my breaks and lunches like a prisoner.

@2uc....Mouse jigglers don't work because IT can tell if someone is using one of these. One company fired 9 associates last month because they were using mouse jigglers...IT picked up on these. Not worth the risk.

These measures exist due to past instances of employee abuse, and unfortunately, everyone now pays the price for that corruption.

Used to work at a place that monitored your status looking for screen inactivity. Do a search for “mouse jiggler”. Various software and hardware solutions to looking busy. It’s a non-issue.
Now, if they implement screen snooping, that’s another thing. I wonder if AI will look at what you’re looking at, or if we’ll have to hire people to do that.
Didn’t we used to be an insurance company?

@1euo+1v7aOblt as long as you move your mouse a few times every 5-10 minutes, you won't register as inactive. If you have 2 15 minute breaks and 30-minute lunches, you'll be at about 88%. If you have a 1 hour lunch and 2 15 minute breaks, you'll be at almost 89%. Anything higher than that, you're cutting your breaks or lunch short. It sounds a lot worse than it is. 80% is easy. Some genius had our expectation at over 90% until we pointed out that meant cutting lunch or breaks short to meet.

Checking under task manager at background apps. Do not see work IQ. Would it be listed as something else?

@uji+1v7aOblt promise I’m not a manager or WFM. We just had a good manager that literally spelled it all out for us and screen shared and showed us what they saw on the back end. People kept di-king around on my team so they had a meeting with us and showed us what they saw on their side.

You would think that would make more people get their sh-t together, but unfortunately some people still fu---d around and found out the hard way.

Basically, TLDR do your job, stay on task, document things, cover your own a-s, don’t stay away too long and you’ll be fine.

Work IQ was downloaded to my computer and those on my team a couple of years ago. We used to get weekly reports emailed to us individually that compared us to our peers. No longer getting the weekly reports, but I have no reason to believe this is not still being monitored. It was nerve wracking at the start but after a while you don't think about it because you are doing your job, going to meetings. helping peers, answering and making calls etc....so this running in the background is just a minor inconvenience from my personal experience.

So, if you are sitting in meetings for 4 hours a day and then take your lunch hour… how do you ever meet the 80%?

Dear former co-workers: This software is yet another example of how they are trying to force you to work HARDER, not SMARTER. The point @1btd+1v7aOblt makes is the tip of the iceberg. There are lots of things you can do other than pounding away on your keyboard and mouse like a monkey, that are more efficient. I preferred to work SMARTER, not HARDER, and that's why I'm not an employee anymore. You have to do what's right for you. You either have integrity, or you do things their way - each comes with its own price to be paid.

What happens if you are in a Teams call or Town Hall and your laptop is inactive for an hour?

Dear senior people leader. My job requires me to call people and do assessments over the phone. Sometimes those calls are almost an hour so my laptop would show as inactive. This would negatively affect me, even though in reality I’m doing my job efficiently if I spending most of my time on the phone. Example of how this will negatively impact people.

My team has Work IQ, but I got a new laptop in August and it hasn't worked since. They've tried installing it multiple times, but it always reports no data.

Those who want to know more about workIQ.

It shows each and every single thing you do on your computer. It even tells them by seconds. It doesn't tell what you're doing inside a web page but it will list a web page you're on. For example if you're on amazon.com, it will say that you're on Amazon.com but not where in the page you click.

Goal is 80%

Anything over 10 minutes will count as inactive or away. So if you're away from your laptop for more than 10 mins, quickly come back before that threshold and click a couple of time to reset that 10 minutes timer again.

WorkIQ has been around for a while in claims. It was only a matter of time before this he-l joke of a company started to install it on more computers. People in production rolls are severely micromanaged with this program. It’s a sign that the company has bad leadership.

@iri+1v7aOblt you also have to hope your manager understands how the numbers work. They had goals of over 90% for being active in work IQ. Just by going to lunch and breaks, you go down by about 10-15%. And you're not supposed to be skipping breaks or lunch. So when they do set goals, make sure they are actually achievable.

So, if you are good at your job and efficient, you have to d-mb it down and go slow to justify your existence…

You can tell if WorkIQ is installed on your computer. If you go to the task manager, it will be listed as one of the background processes. I used to be in a department with work IQ. It tells them how much time you're inactive. So it will show inactive when your computer is locked up or when you're mouse is inactive for a certain amount of time. I think it's 5 or 7 minutes. It will also tell them every single website you visit on your work computer.

Is there a way to tell if Work IQ is installed on your computer? I disagree with previous poster. It does matter if they are going to these lengths to see what we are all doing. It seems like a way to disengage with employees even more and have AI tell them though useless metrics rather then have meaningful conversations with people about work loads. It also showed that maybe people leaders aren’t doing their jobs if when have to install essentially spying software on computers to know what work is being done.

LOL. Welcome aboard the WorkIQ train. We’ve been micromanaged for awhile now. They quite literally can track every little thing you’re doing with it.

Having a convo in Teams?
Checking your email?
Been away for awhile?
Clicking into different pages?

It knows and records everything.
Your manager will know every little detail.

It also can compare you to the rest of your team to see who’s being productive v not and will track your time away from your computer

Typical out of touch people leader. Most people have smart phones or iPads and don’t need to use corporate laptops for that stuff. The ELT are su-king at their job and putting folks out of jobs before the holidays. Anthem wastes money on this cr-p and refuses to give COLA raises while they make millions.

i’m at the senior people leader level and couldnt care less if someone decided to install workIQ on my pc. literally, doesnt matter unless you’re messing around during your workday. nowadays, just go on your phone or if you’re working from home , another pc if you want to do personal stuff. i admit things su-k at the company not but there are so many d-mb things folks complain about like workIQ.
