Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

If you're showing any gray, you're out of luck

I see so many people here boasting about finding new jobs and leaving Allstate, but do you mind posting your age as well? Something tells me all of you are in your thirties, forties at best. I know a lot of people who are trying to get out but nobody will hire them. Not even for jobs they are overqualified for. The thing they have in common? Age. We are the pariahs when it comes to employment and nobody can convince me otherwise.

@1vvo+1bmX3L0n I work at arity, and I work with Allstate's mobile app dev team occasionally, and they are bad. Have spent weeks explaining the same sh-t repetitively to them all the time and they still sc--w it up and make our tech look terrible.

But you get what you pay for when you don't opt for top talent and settle for under 6 figure devs on your customer facing apps.

It also doesn't help that allstate security bans the use of certain tools, so we have to recreate the wheel all the time instead of doing what other companies do and just use the right tool for the job instead of the corporate security approved one.

For all of you liars saying you are making six figures; does that include the two after the decimal? Mo--ns

There is a lot of talk about IT/Tech and how wonderful they are. Obviously you’ve never tried using the Allstate app. It is horrendous and a joke to use. Tom Wilson talked a lot about Progressive and Geico and how well they’re doing. Their mobile apps are amazing and easy to use. I’d be careful if I were you IT/Tech with your stone throwing. You know what they say about glass houses.

@qol+1bmX3L0n what? You can't even string a coherent sentence together and you're lecturing us on IT/tech being overpaid? Can you even count to 10?

@1nge+1bmX3L0n union isn't going to happen. Gtfo.

Also, if a union did happen, the company would just be out of business years ahead of their already accelerated pace. Unions ki-l more jobs than they protect

34 years with Allstate. Not quite 60 years old. Yeah the hair turned grey years ago. Survived the lay offs from last year. Thought I had a 50/50 chance of being laid off. Have done well working here. Currently making just over 100k. With the pension and 401k have over 1 million coming in retirement. Actually, almost hoping they lay me off with a golden parachute. Ready to do something else that I have fun and enjoy doing and don't really care what it pays.

Ready for a Union yet ? Assessments wouldn’t happen if a Union was involved. Allstate taking advantage of their employees playing games. They are bad actors

IT and software engineering errs are. Joke. Plug and play cr-p systems all with platforms that integrate. Big deal. Paid way more than they should and does not take a rocket scientist to learn new methods of code. It’s a farce. They just want you ton do their shady systems work fast.

It’s a show

I think it really depends where you live. 55, claims manager laid off in Nov. 30 plus applications sent out, 1 reply. Took job with them for about 1/3 less pay but a lot happier and figured that was worth payout.

It should be if your showing any gray your gone. Anyone who is between 50-60+ making the top of there pay band will be on the chopping block. If your 55+, good luck finding another job. Am 60 and was let go last November - one interview in 6+ months

Ill be looking to exit the industry soon myself. Just not an industry where you can have a career anymore. Maybe these insurance companies can compete for labor with.....just the opportunity to work for a company....since thats all this industry offers anymore, just having a job and be happy about it. I can make this money at any number of places with half the work and BS, and with more of a future and interest in their human capital (that isnt offshore at least). all those wasted designations ect...oh well....you need to know when its over and do something about it....and this isnt going anywhere good for american claim handlers. All companies are on this same path in insurance unfortunately, so why bother migrating to another company that may be 5 years off from Allstate.
