Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Working at DXC was one of the most demoralizing experiences of my career

The company is plagued by poor leadership, constant restructuring, and zero strategic vision. Morale is perpetually low, and any talent that remains is either burned out or desperately looking for a way out. Promotions and recognition are nonexistent unless you’re part of the inner circle — and even then, it’s more about politics than performance. Projects are underfunded, deadlines are unrealistic, and management is detached from the reality on the ground. Innovation is just a buzzword here; in practice, it’s all about cutting costs at the expense of quality and people. DXC doesn’t invest in its employees or its future — it’s a sinking ship with leadership rearranging the deck chairs.

I was stupid. Saw so much game playing! Managers playing HR, jobs going to offshore, offshore treated terribly and not to be trusted. The work provided to clients they are getting charged for cr-ppy services. Promotions, salaries are not fair and manipulated. Training???what training? Not how the company use to be, now it is a toxic mess. Get out of there when you can, because they will use you and kick you out if they are afraid they will get exposed!

You captured the failure exactly. What you described that’s happened in your organization, has been happening to ours. I thought it was just our organization but have realized it’s prevalent across the company. They just keep recycling the same bad executives around and they infect everyone wherever they go. The company truly has no future if they don’t change, which is highly unlikely by now. The only hope is the company is sold or parts of it spun off. Sad, because a lot of people have worked hard for this company.

@qr

I left DXC found a better place to be, make more money than I did working at DXC, have unlimited vacation as long as I get what needs to be done, done (and I do).

Given your sanctimonious stance, I assume you took a job as a Reddit moderator lol.

@tt The 50+ are maybe split into three groups:

They spend everything they earn, haven’t paid off their mortgages — they need this job. But DXC has ki-led their prospects, because all they know is pure legacy stuff. So they follow instructions with malicious compliance and otherwise keep their heads down.

They’re running side hustles alongside their main job. They plan to quit soon, but while DXC keeps things easy, they stick around. The company has no power over them. They could walk out tomorrow without a reference or a payoff — though they’d prefer the latter, so they wait.

They’re financially secure, deeply experienced, and could be valuable mentors — but they’re disillusioned. After years of restructures and poor leadership, they’ve adapted but now feel disconnected and unmotivated. They quietly get on with their work, avoid the politics, grumble on here, and wait for retirement or redundancy. Some go off with stress because the weeks between holidays are too much. There’s no consequence for that, so they play the game a while longer.

@th Spot on. DXC has no middle. The young are annoyingly positive until they finish their 2 year "starter" program and then realise that DXC doesn't live up to it's side of the bargain so leave by year 3. Then there is the other demographic, 50+ who would like to work for a good company but just can be bothered finding a new job as they can do their jobs perfectly well with minimal effort. Although not all projects are as easy as others, I at least sit at my desk for my full time, others are off doing other jobs or playing golf, which I just don't understand how they get away with it.

@sv Telling people they’re stupid, id--ts, and babies is exactly what you’d expect from the likes of Brock and his cronies. I’ve completely forgotten which client I worked with a couple of years ago. If, as you claim, you left 10 years ago, why haven’t you moved on? Put your efforts into your new org before you realise you wasted your time on a company you have no connection to.

DXC UK has very few people under 50 with more than two years’ service. What it does have is a lot of people over 55. The company either can’t see its issues or simply doesn’t care—because there is no long-term plan. There’s no goodwill. We’re all just in it for ourselves now: maxing out pensions, flexing holidays, topping up with sick leave—and nobody even notices 2hr lunches. That’s why people stay at DXC.

The grumbling comes from a sense that things could be a lot better with just a few smart policy changes—or at least no new requirements. But mostly, I think we’re the sort of people who’d grumble wherever we ended up, because we care (unlike the DXC execs). We’d just like to see continuous improvement, not managed decline. So leave us be.

@qr We all think your the stupid one for having left but can't get the place out of your head. And you then say it's our issue!! If you've moved on, delete this site. Forget about DXC. You can't change it from the outside. We're struggling from the inside!

My job at DXC is fantastic for my age group. I work from home 100%, last time I went tot he office before COVID. My boss does not disturb me, he does not have a clue what I am doing other that I am owning particular thing. I have bunch of Indians working for me who in general have no clue af anything but luckily I have 2 good guys that do 95% work for the team. I have daily stand up call with them, help them if they are blocked with some problem and the rest of the time I spend doing gardening and my side job. Salary is ok, maybe slightly below market standard but I prefer it doing 5% of effort for 95% of the market salary vs doing 120% for 100% of the market average. I just hope to survive like this until the retirement, if someone offers me to stay like this I would just ask where I have to sign

I am not upset, you all are just stup-d , complain for 10+ years and do nothing. You want to be treated better then do what I finally had the nerve to do. I left DXC found a better place to be, make more money than I did working at DXC, have unlimited vacation as long as I get what needs to be done, done (and I do).

STOP bellyaching and DO SOMETHING!~

Perhaps it's a reminder to yourself. You choose to engage/read this site. Don't like what you see? Fine, then go to some other echo chamber where you're not at risk of getting upset. Welcome to the internet.

@kr Please share the secret to loving your job at DXC. You clearly don't see what everyone else does. You must be one of our clueless exec's who's lost touch with reality. But if you genuinely have the answer - please share it.

@bx There's a lot of us in category 2. We would willing do more, but not when the company is so cr-p, and you know colleagues who joined 12 months ago justify 20% better salary but haven't done a thing yet. I know I won't be getting a pay rise. But I sure as can do 25% less time to compensate myself. It wouldn't take much to get me back on board, but the company seem clueless, and I'm fed up of making suggestions that get ignored.

its only bad for your mental health and possibly also career if you approach DXC with the intention to grow professionally. If you approach working there with one of the three following attitudes you will survive.

  1. As a failed senior exec its an excellent place for one last big pay day after not achieving at true tier 1 orgs such as Accenture and IBM. True, its the final nail in the professional coffin and you may as well delete your linkedin profile afterwards, but who cares if you've pocketed 2 years of exec bonuses. Go and buy that yacht and sail around the world ...
  2. As a mid-level worker who is > 50 who probably ended up in DXC not through choice its a perfect place to quiet quit and ride out the last few working years to retirement. Use it to pump up your 401K and focus on life after DXC. Do just enough to stay off the radar (attend the stand up meetings, complete meaningless timesheets, attend totally pointless and worthless "AI" training, if you have to RTO turn up twice a week in the car park and swipe your badge and then go shopping nearby). Ideally you'll even get the chance for a WFR eventually.
  3. If you're younger and still have a career to progress, then use DXC very much as a 18 month - 2 year stepping stone. Ensure you get a market competitive starting salary then you have your stepping stone to the next role outside, and start looking for that role immediately. If you're a grad then try and get some training/certs and ensure you can put a few relatively useful skills/projects that you were loosely associated with to show a bit of experience.

With one of the three above, you can survive. Remember its all about "the end justify the means".

Good summary of Working at DXC. Its a really bad place for your mental health and destructive to your wealth.

"Management is detached from the reality on the ground." Even worse they re-invent silly ideas from the past to justify their existence and take vast quantities of money.

They are in capable of expansion and thats 7 years worth of incompetence.
