3 days in office - does anybody know if it’s average?

Is that going to be averaging 3 days a week? Or every single week at least 3 days

the reports and dashboards look like they default to 4 weeks and show the average. looks like they are also looking at the edges - people only coming in 0-1 days first. guessing they'll tighten more and more over time.

someone on another thread mentioned they were looking at people badging in for other people. has anyone actually seen fact on this? someone also mentioned they were looking in the office but i don't see how they actually track that since we don't badge out. could be logins but i heard that they cannot tell if you're on vdi.

My manager told me that they were told to pay attention to the 12-week average.

If you know you will be out more than 2 days in a week, it's better to go in extra days the week before so the average doesn't dip below 3. No reason to get flagged as non-compliant.

Is a day 4 hours, six hours, eight hours? There seems to be no consistency on when people come in, how many days, and when they leave.

Is it that difficult to understand what 3 days a week in the office means

just come in 3 days per week, pretty simple. if you aren't going to make it one week talk to your manager and get their OK via email to CYA. And yes, managers can see it by day. if 2 of your 3 days are on the weekend they have ve having a conversation with you

i'm the one posting about the rolling 13 weeks - and i'm also in CSBB.

the every 4 week static reports are a thing of the past. They were produced centrally and then distributed to managers via email.

Every manager now has access to a self-serve reporting tool that is updated weekly - and are expected to check it on their own to monitor ongoing compliance. It includes the rolling 13 week lookback plus day by day detail so that a manager can construct whatever interim views they want.

When I was let go it was 3/2, next week, 2/3 but that was changing in IT. Every job I have applied for in the past month have all stated, this is 5 days a week in house, and one was a competing bank. I think the writing is on the wall, WF will go to FT in office sooner than later. But, if they keep changing floors to neighborhood seating which means getting rid of X number of floors, then no way certain buildings would be able to go back to 5/5. For the bank, it's cheaper to do neighborhood seating, and hybrid.

In SVB’s old org it was “don’t be a jerk” and it seemed to work. Projects got done. Then it was Agile comes in for Agile ceremonies and everyone else 2/3. Then it was Agile 1 day/week everyone else 2/3. Then it was starting after Labor Day it will be 3 days/week for everyone. Then suddenly it was, “oh it’s always been 3 a week. It was supposed to be announced at your team meetings. “ Now it’s 3 a week for all, no exceptions. Talk about screwing people around. Also you have to go to your assigned office. So I drive past one office to go to another office further away to sit and talk on the phone. But don’t worry. I recycled my paper cup so all good with carbon footprint.

My LOB does weekly monitoring. I had to forward one of their stupid weather alerts to my manager so he could explain why I didn’t make it in on a Friday. I even made up the day the next week before the complaint rolled in. Absolutely stupid and I wasted my time trying to do the right thing.

Vagueness is a sought-after feature. There's fringe benefits but the primary purpose of RTO is to te--orize 'the masses' and tank morale, which results in the 'voluntary' attrition they are looking for. If you make it crystal clear or tolerable, not as many people will quit. It's that simple.

Rolling average .. aka moving average. What you’re saying is that every week there is an average taken of the last 13 weeks. In CSBB the window is every 4 weeks (20 working days). It’s done every 4 weeks - it’s not a moving average

it is a rolling 13 week average (I.e. one quarter/3 months). That is the official, enterprise monitoring.

Managers also monitor for shorter intervals at their discretion to identify trends - both improving and deteriorating. If someone has a legit reason for being out and their 13 week average is going to deteriorate, the manager needs to have written documentation (email trail and/or entries in workday) about why it happened and that it was with the manager's knowledge.

So yes, absolutely you can be short one week and make it up the next week and not have to use PTO.

@iub. I work in TK's org - SVB old org. Maybe you're new here but the rules were not defined from day one. They changed with the wind.

Here's how it went.

  1. Everyone needs to come in 2/3 Hybrid. Come in whatever days you want.
  2. No I take that back. Now everyone only has to come in for meetings or when it makes sense. No one is being forced into the office.
  3. Oops. No changed my mind again. Now if you're on an Agile team you can come in for important meetings but everyone else has to do 2/3. (Nope I never said it was coming in only when it makes sense.) You can go home as soon as the meetings are over. And go where it makes sense to go.
  4. Oops sorry. Since Charlie says it's 3 days in the office, so everyone except for Agile teams need to come in 3 days a week. (My comment: not even sure this was communicated - but all of a sudden it was 3/3 and not 3/2.)
  5. I didn't mean it when I said you could go home after your meetings. My bad, I meant 6 hours. (My comment: I think this varies by dept as well - I've heard 6, 4 and no time - just tracking badge swipes.)
  6. Agile teams, I know I said you only need to come in for some Agile ceremonies, but yeah that changed. We want you all in 1 day a week now.
  7. It's confusing so we're going to make it easier. Everyone, including Agile teams, need to come in 3 days a week. Everyone must go into their assigned offices. And we may tell you want days to come in.

And no your manager doesn't get to change these rules. I know people who ended up on the list because they followed the guidance their manager gave them. When they got on the list, they were told it was their verbal warning. Their manager explained the situation to leadership. Didn't matter. They are in IT.

And yes, if you end up with a verbal warning because you're following the guidance your manager gave you, you'll be looking for well-defined rules/what will land you on the list, so that you don't end up on the list again. The second time you're on the list is a written warning.

We do a six week rolling average based on the previous calendar month after a 13 week baseline calculation.

What slopjack departments do you all work in where you don’t know the rules? FFS in SVB’s old department under TK now from day one the “rules” were defined.

Sounds more like folks are asking for the defined criteria of all possible combinations of experiences possible.

All that matters is it is literally your direct manager reviewing the report and actioning if needed. Ask them for the details of what they are looking at. The average RTO data is generated at the report level but managers can then modify the numbers

Anything under 3 is an issue, at least in CIB. Many CIB sub LoBs have to go in 5 days a week, only a very few groups have 3 days in 2 remote. I get a monthly report of my team, 3 or more fine, anything less is a performance issue.

@tjo, if the answer was straightforward and communicated consistently, people wouldn't have to ask the same question over and over.

Even reading through the comments, there isn't a consistent answer given which means it hasn't been communicated properly by leadership. Or that isn't not consistent across the LOB's.

@tjo, what have you specifically been told by HY about how they're measuring/reporting compliance? It's possible that managers have been told something, but what have regular employees been told from HY? It's just been follow the rules and you won't get on the list which has been frustrating.

I hate that they've purposefully made the tracking of RTO vague. And I hate the stress it puts on me to make sure I'm complying with the vague rules. I've had to take PTO a couple of times to make sure I don't go below the 3 days. If it was communicated that it was an average, I would have opted to go in an extra day the next week. But of course that won't happen because it would be giving the employees some kind of control and we know HY won't allow that.

It seems all the resources wasted on tracking, reporting and management enforcement of RTO should be focused on getting us out from under the consent orders. It's like HY decided to control the employees because they can't get control over anything else. It's like Charlie had to be able to say he did something to the Board (since he's not actually done what he's supposed to do) and he's using RTO for that.

My manager mentioned that they monitor rolling 4 week and 16 week. If any one of them is not close to 3, it's an issue. He also mentioned that a 2.75 average does not raise flags. Below 2.5 would.

It’s actually pathetic for a company with 100000s of employees - in no way is it “simplified”.

Please explain/fully flesh out your arbitrary rules so I can follow them.
