Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Can't Promote if you live in CA

Has anyone else been told they can't promote to a higher position/band or apply for another position if they live in CA?

@tjf+1aWExVnU - This is not fake news and unfortunately very real. I am a former esurance employee that transitioned to allstate and was told in my review this year that I am not able to promote to a higher position because I live in CA. Esurance didn't transition all of their work to AZ but told us that as people left the Rocklin office they would replace in other locations outside of CA and wanted to find out if other people are being told the same thing I am now being an allstate employee.

It's exactly what happened to the Esurance claim office (subro/product development, billing, etc) at their Rocklin, CA office about a year before Allstate took over the brand. So everyone figured that eventually they would be closing the Rocklin office like they did the Allstate office in the neighboring town the year before. Then when people quit and positions opened, they opened them in other offices not named CA. I trained people that could eventually take over my job and did it through skype. Hence our office didn't totally freak out with Big Blue took over our name. We figured we were going to get shut down by someone, didn't matter if they were called Esurance or Allstate.

How can you promote in California when the company moved all its operations except some lit, siu and agencies to Arizona??? With all the real issues going on with this place why post fake news like this? waste of space.

What a civil shame, but it’s true. The state of California is too employee people centric for the likes of Allsnake. No passion for American jobs or lifestyle. They do shame to the name Allstate. They won’t give a lick or a buck about anything but making crazy a-s decisions. Americans won’t forget Allstate and how they behaved with the American worker and the great state of California. In the long run, they will have wished they had stuck it out and worked for compromise . This company has lost so much great talent and potential for what they’ve done. Deplorable.

Yes. Allstate no longer hires in California except for very specific and legally required positions. You will notice that almost all posted jobs including home based roles say in the description "This position is not available to California residents".

Allstate no longer hires people living in California and no longer promotes within California. This is company wide and not specific to claims. All current employees are grandfathered in but once gone they are no longer rehirable if they reside in California. Also California employees are not eligible for promotion or movement out of their current position. I know several people that were laid off in 2020 that live in California who were told due to living in that state that they are not rehirable. This had something to do with a lawsuit Allstate lost as well Allstate's disagreement with California labor laws.

No, but we’ve been told we can work from home and relocate to any state except California now that we’re home based auto adjusters. Allstate is trying to move all claims jobs out of California. We’re writing tons of estimates and total losses from California due to a lack of adjusters there now.
