Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

Apple was once where Viasat was

In the 1990s, things looked bleak and Apple almost went out of business. But like a runner that fell during a marathon, they got up, never gave up, caught up with and surpassed everyone. A decade from now, Viasat will be in the S&P 100 after having acquired SpaceX, and Guru will be Time Magazine's Person of the Year after firing Elon Musk.

Viasat is a failing company. Bet everything on failed VS3 and GEO when StarLink and other LEOs are eating their lunch. Stock will be $10-11 soon.

It's transitioning from a cool company where Engineers get to innovate to an Internet utility company. :-(

Funny that Guru stock sale. I was under trade restrictions on May 13th yet I know 1% of the non-public info that he knows, maybe he didn't get the memo ╭∩╮(▀̿ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)ᕗ

Guru is here for the exec bene's. Private jets, free stock sales, the whole lot while dishing out clown-like selfies. He will ride the Viasat gravy train right to the end, profiting the entire way while the rest of us struggle under cuts and layoffs. This guy is the textbook definition of failing up. None of the market misses from Mark shame me as much as his selection of this guy for leadership.

The Guru sale is probably the part of the RSUs they sell for taxes. Not bad..$1 million in RSUs for one year. He's not stupid when it comes to lining his pockets and executive travel apparently.

You heard it here first - Guru will be the 5th head on Mount Rushmore.

The year is 2035. Guru wipes the sweat from his brow amid the humid Mumbai weather and looks up at the sky. "I wonder if space has a year over year increase in EBITDA" he ponders. A glint in his eye shines while he gives a slight smirk. Filling him with vigor, the memories of Yahoo and Zynga surround him in a surge of glory. He screams "POSITIVE CASH FLOW BY 2025!" as he smites the 16th starlink launch of the month out of mid-orbit. A silent pause gives way before the LEO competition falls to the sea. Destiny has arrived and Guru stands welcoming. "Heh" he mutters before reaching into an old box into his garage. Out he pulls a dusty leather jacket underneath a pile of etrade short sale receipts. A crimson "Verizon" dons his back now and steps out from his garage. "I'm pretty much Steve Jobs" he tells an old woman standing on the street. "I've reduced operational spend at a revolutionary space technology company" he added before she awkwardly turned to run away.

Looking back up at the sky he takes a deep breath in confidence. Truly a revolutionary who knows no bounds. Even Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk can't comprehend his genius business tactics of gutting a company for every cent to look good on paper for 3 months at a time.

Agree, and it all starts with another RIF. ViaSat has been underwhelming due to the wfh people wasting their time (while getting paid) e.g. watching movies, exercising, going on trips, etc.; until a deadline is approaching. They barely make the deadline, while producing the bare minimum that doesn’t even meet standards.
This had obviously done a lot of damage to the company and a change is needed.
Easiest way to conduct this RIF is to give the people an ultimatum of RTO, if they say no then they are terminated for cause, therefore, no severance package which will save even more money

Ya this tool has his parable backwards, Viasat failed to innovate and pithy observations just come from ignorance. nobody in leadership is visionary enough to steer out of this mess. this is no apple, they are too hidebound to successes of past decades to concoct any disruptions ahead of them. let me help you with more appropriate comparisons
Blackberry
Xerox
Nokia
Blockbuster
Kodak
Polaroid
Circuit City
MySpace
the list goes on

To the guy saying we are fine, Guru is amazing, nothing to worry about, we are the same as Apple.
If your not worried then why are you on a site looking at a Viasat layoff thread?

We are fine, with the established contracts that Viasat acquired from the Inmarsat acquisition, and when VS3 flight 2 is launched and bringing in revenue, Viasat will catch-up. A runner can trip and fall and still get back up to win a race.

Guru is honestly one of the best executives I have ever been around. His previous stints didn't look good because he didn't have the right people around him to implement his vision. Viasat is different. There may be short term pain, but over the long run we'll see the fruits of Guru's brilliance.

Don’t listen all the noise from former employees or rival companies that just want to bring the morale down. Viasat didn’t wish for all our parties to be laid off, unfortunately that was the result Viasat had to do it in an effort to reduce costs and to restructure Viasat’s business model. However Viasat still treated them with the respect and dignity they deserve, plus the company knows that they can count on our support in doing the same, so don’t listen to all those Trolls!
Viasat will be back on top once more! No matter what happens, keep getting back up. For every time you get back up, the fall makes you stronger and thrusts you to a new level. Whatever you might be facing. In the end, what matters is how quickly you get back up and take your power back.

You people are sad and pathetic. If ViaSat is doing so bad, then why did Korean Air selected Viasat to provide in-flight connectivity on 40 additional aircraft, Icelandair selected Viasat’s in-flight Wi-Fi solution for its new fleet of Airbus Aircraft, and Royal Jordanian Airlines plans to equip more than 40 aircraft with Viasat’s connectivity system? Sounds money to me. You all are just but hurt because you got let go for not bring value to this amazing company.

HAHAHAHAHA....[2 hours later].....HAHAHAHAHA.
Look - Apple hired the visionary that was Steve Jobs back to the company and the rest is history. Viasat has a clown in the form of GG who couldn't envision his way out of a paper bag if he tried...and MD who was stupid to (a) be blindsided by the LEO threat and (b) then launch a war of words with Starlink when he realised he couldn't compete. Viasat will be written about for sure...in how it was a casuality of the disruptive innovation brought about by LEO megaconstellations. Look where we are at the moment : no vision or fast decision-making from the Exec, PdM just slashing and burning projects and innovation to make the budget and a long-term share price decline.
