Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Quitting without a notice

Has anyone quit their job without giving a two week notice? Don’t want to keep waiting around to get laid off, and at this point I don’t think that a two week notice will do anything. They don’t hire internal US employees so I don’t think they’ll ever hire me back for any position nor would I ever want to work here again.

Sounds like you are a person I would like to fire.

Wait to be fired they owe you a severance, if you like COBRA benefits and then yo can apply for Unemployment benefits.

It’s not that they want to be rehired by UHG/Optum. It’s if the UHG/Optum marks them as not eligible for rehire, then the other company could decide not to hire them because of that. Lesson 101, always leave on good terms.

Why would you want to be rehired by that employer?

Do companies not ask if you’re eligible for rehire? If a person quits without a notice, couldn’t they mark them as not eligible for rehire?

In the US businesses typically don't do references, only employment verification checks. Unless you are under contract there you do not need to give any notice. The only benefit may be if you wish to be rehired in the future.

Just give the two weeks notice and stop listening to people that don’t help pay your bills. You will need to use the company as a reference when you apply for another job.

it is hard enough finding a good job why would you want to make it harder by having a past employer tell your potential new company, "yes he worked here those dates at that postion and he quit with no notice"

If your pivoting career fields it’s super unlikely that you would ever work with the same people ever again, this is a giant company and if the majority of the team is already offshore employees from India/Philippines I don’t see why a 2 week notice is needed. This company pretty much treats its US based employees like trash. When I accepted a new position on a different team I got no curtesy notice from recruiting or HR that they decided to put me on a different team without giving me a choice to even decline the position if I didn’t want to work on that team. So no reason that you need to give curtesy or consideration that you as an employee is not given in return.

Whatever cathartic pleasure you might get from a sudden, no notice departure will be short lived. Regardless of how justified you might feel, your former co-workers are unlikely to see that way and they'll be left scrambling to do your former tasks.

While you may never work for THIS company again, there's always a chance you'll encounter these same former coworkers at a different company in the future.

Courtesy and professionalism are seldom the wrong choice.

There are no bridges to burn. If you dont live in India or Philippines not chance of working here again anyway. Don't worry about it

You’re not required to be giving notice. They don’t when they lay you off. So long as you’re cordial no notice is fine. It’s when you act like a di-k van dy-e is when you get a bad rep.

@cp

My only caveat would be to make sure to use up any PTO balance first. I would bleed my bennies dry before ghosting them.

If your going to burn bridges by not giving notice you might as well not give ANY notice. Just stop showing up and see how long the paychecks keep getting deposited! Slim chance but perhaps they "fire" you w severance as well!

I send thank-you notes, always RSVP, and address my elders as Sir or Ma'am. When I left previous jobs I gave more than two weeks' notice and left on friendly terms. So I never imagined myself quitting with no notice. But that's exactly what I did, and I felt zero remorse.

I had a new job lined up, and was planning to give the customary two weeks' notice. I tried to submit it electronically as per policy but the website kept timing out. As I grew more and more frustrated at reloading the same page over and over, It occurred to me that Optum might tell me to GTFO immediately and I'd be unemployed with no pay in the interim.

Eventually the website cooperated and let me proceed through the screens. Finally, when it looked like I was at the end, the site gave me a message that it couldn't complete my request and I needed to speak with my supervisor. At that point I thought, sc--w this, I don't work here anymore. I emailed my boss and said I'm out of here. I don't know what the response was because I closed my laptop and never opened it again.

Yes, I was rude. I did have to ride out the two weeks between jobs without income, but I figured there was a 50% chance that would have happened anyway.

I assume I'm on the do-not-rehire list. But who cares? Even if I wanted to go back, it would be bad for me, so I shouldn't. Optum was the worst place I ever worked; people there seemed to delight in mistreating others. My mental health improved 100% when I left.

My rule is to always give notice. However, this company has treated me so poorly I’m probably not going to give notice at all.

Two week notice they most likely will cut you off immediately. Might as well wait till 10/30 get some of the sweet severance.

Don't quit without a job lined up. You would get severance pay if you stay till the layoff.

I did. I got too frustrated with team members getting let go, more work piling onto me due to their lazy offshore replacements, and higher-ups that didn't care. New job extended an offer and I quit as soon as I got the start date. They've tried reaching out to my personal phone and email several times since none of the "expert" offshore talent they had left on the team could replace my output despite the documentation I left behind.
