Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Getting laid off might be a blessing in disguise

Getting laid off could end up being better than staying with Chevron. There are so many companies offering more exciting work, better pay, and great benefits, plus a healthier work culture. I get that people are worried about losing their jobs, but there are plenty of better opportunities out there.

@1rfw Awesome! That "too lazy" trait is always a big plus for prospective employers. I'm sure they'll be lining up at your door, lmao!

We have a track record of taking 6 months to complete reorgs and don’t even have enough HR employees to get it done right now.

You clearly haven’t tried to find a job lately! It’s a terrible job market I’ve found. And Chevron pays so much better than other companies I’ve talked to.

I’m sticking it out until the bitter end. Chevron is just like any company pros and cons but right now there are way more cons out in the world and we’re damn lucky to be at Chevron.

@syp Honestly? Because I'm too lazy to start looking. But I know I'll be okay if I'm laid off. I've seen enough people leave for greener pastures who are now thriving to know it's true.

For some it's on our own PMP.

My question is, where have the layoffs/re-orgs been announced?

@xvu and that is how it will be done. The re-org will be soon

So, @OP+ is there any particular reason that with so much "more exciting work, better pay, and great benefits, plus a healthier work culture" businesses out there willing and ready to hire you, you are still at your current job?
Please enlighten us all. Do tell.

Adding even more uncertainty for those in California, the Company wants to relocate those employees to Houston, with no certainty that the job in Houston will be there for any period of time (true with any job, but to uproot and move and then be laid off). As a shareholder, I would not be happy to have a bunch of relo expenses hit the Company only for those folks to be laid off...this makes even more sense for the Company to do all the reorgs/ROMs before any mass relos.

And this is why you should not put all your professional eggs in the HOU basket fam

I know others have said this but I want to emphasize this too: this is a terrible time to be without a job. People laid off in the last year or two are often without employment for 6 or more months. Getting laid off with 1000 or more Houston workers on top of all the layoffs from other companies is not good. Don't get complacent

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to find a job these days?

Are you high...? You're saying getting laid off with 100's if not 1000's of others around the same time is a blessing? Might want to start looking now so you beat the rush. That magic package that everyone is looking for might not hold many long enough when looking for a job.

Ok but if you are in geosciences or reservoir and you get laid off, where do you go ? All the other majors are also doing reorgs. If you are lucky and can go work for one the new startups geothermal companies, you will have to cut your TC by half .
