Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

So many layoffs but they have budget for new members of the exec team

At this point everything they do is just laughable. They have budget to expand the leadership team but no funds for the people actually doing the operation work. We now have a ‘growth officer’, what’s next, a Head of extra growth?

@sy Well the new "leaders" who are nothing but expensive frauds have spent most of their careers in service based companies like Accenture, HCL, Cognizant, Deloitte etc. They cannot think any other way other than outsourcing. They look down upon product based companies and think they are a burden to the company. It's a shame that the board is so gullible and buy snake oil so willingly from these fraudsters.

Cognizant failed once. Accenture is a conflict of interest.

@g9
I'm sure I learned during my studies that a company should stick to it's core competencies - in Pearsons case quality content/products. But we seem to be doing something else.

It is laughable. New leadership team with new ideas. Seen it, been there, done it. Constantly spending money whilst we are the bottom as subjected to a new fad idea, cost utting, loss of jobs. What is it that Pearson now does. We are now so generic that I have forgotten. We are no longer a publisher, I would question our education capability and we don't own our content, we do do enablement but most of that is outsourced. Truely what is our USP. If it is AI, does anyone else rememver the .com bo-m and look where that got us!

I don’t disagree with anything said. Also the new “Growth” person is a replacement for head of enterprise sales.

While I understand a company is not a human, the humanity of outsourcing jobs to cheaper overseas resources, and replacing experience with Ai, does make you wonder what people will do for jobs. With 500+ of the full time staff being let go globally it is a time to ask what jobs will really stand the test of corporate culture combined with Ai.

@c9 We are the ones being outsourced to these consulting firms/business partners. They dictate everything and we’re just the puppets. These firms have no money coming in from financial services anymore because of heavy regulations and are coming after the skills/learning sector now.

lol! That is because they are outsourcing most work to vendors like Deloitte, Cognizant, Accenture etc. The executives will just run the business with educational institutions and general public.
