Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Leadership keeps blaming remote work for our problems and trying to force more RTO

But that's not it. It's never been it. The problem is the constant layoffs and the never ending changes. Let us go back to working from home more and maybe people would actually want to work more and be more productive again.

@14p well then there would be better transparency if we were back in office. Better support. Better transparency to see capacity. Which creates opportunities for visibility.

@w8 well where “Fred” lives does impact me. It impacts wages. Impacts job opportunities. Impacts job availability in our community. Impacts training resources funded for the community. Is impacting morale.

What a bad analogy.

How did RTO turn into the worst cable news / twitter feed?

@bf So, it would appear that, as you said, you do not care that you are working in the "office". It just bothers you that someone else is living elsewhere.
Of course, where Fred lives has no effect whatsoever on where you live. You are just some kind of victim or something. Imagine your melt-down if you found out that Fred was making more money than you do - even though, again, that fact has no bearing on what you make.

If you were hired to work remotely, what change requires that the original terms of employment be abrogated?

All companies are doing this. Not a big surprise.

@ss ESG is the largest criminal racketeering scheme in history. A handful of funds managers who control the proxy votes of everyone's 401k funds compels corporate BoDs to act against their shareholders interests implementing radical leftist policies. Any companies that resist are denied competitive access to capital markets. And the criminal Obama DOJ was in on it. Shocking!

@sr well the progressive mindset was coming to the conclusion of remote work. ESG rises all ships. Helps all employees. Obama era was responsible for this progress.

Instead we get 2000’s policies. White male leaders.

I am very supportive of hybrid, including multiple days at home, but what we have right now is just not fair for in-office employees. Half or more of some teams are fully remote. We are still hiring remote directors and above. They get to focus, spend more time on actual work, etc. while in-office employees are being punished with more strict RTO rules. This is also not fair for locals, especially if USAA is getting tax benefits. It is already very hard to find a job, and they keep hiring remote employees instead of hiring locally. If majority of the companies did that, it would be fine, but that is not the case anymore.

Idgaf about remote employees. They should be the first to be laid off if they can’t be in office by next week. There’s been plenty of notice. Only exceptions being military and spouses and the truly disabled. Yes I’m calling out you with your b.s. JARs.

Get over rto. Almost every other company has had to return to office. America voted to go back to the 1950’s. Now we are reaping that mindset. If we wanted a progressive society then vote how you want to work and live.

@pg the Great Resignation Era, where employees for the first time had the advantage in the job market. USAA along with other big companies remember that time, now that the pandemic over, this is there way of sticking it to the employees.

You guys remember how smug and entitled employees were in 2020-2021?

Constantly writing threats on LinkedIn about forcing RTO and losing talent etc

Executives didn’t like that - and now they’re taking their revenge

It’ll eventually die down

The layoffs are also just a symptom, not the cause. The cause is senior leadership lacking strategic vision and awareness of real operational problems. They are so insulated from reality by shiny consultants that the only "ideas" they have are generic paint-by-numbers management consultant scripts. And not even good ones.

@dx USAA should practice what it preaches for RTO, but unfortunately they lack the b@!!$ to enforce it on EMG and above. You have 12 months to move within 60 miles of any USAA office, if not then here is your 60 days notice with severance package to follow.

I was in a meeting with someone very senior recently. There were ~15 of us and it was an in-office "meet and greet" situation. THE FIRST WORDS spoken was around RTO. Not "tell us about the business" or "how do you see our business changing as result of rapid adoption of AI"...nope...lets complain about RTO. And, all but 3 of the individuals were REMOTE. They were invited in to meet a senior leader...you know..face time. The individuals complaining about RTO - they were remote.

I am personally tired of the debate...bring all of the remote employees in. If you are remote, and you can't make it...here's your severance package. Oh, and the the EMG who are "in office" but have a travel arrangement - you also get a package if you can't move to an office.

I hate them zoomy remote emplyees too. get them hot spots roamers out of here. why do we still have them in AML. Clayton tolerates this

Remote workers in AML are super lazy. They even use the personal hotspot to log in.

ED and above should RTO. There once were plans in 2022 to force all EMG back in by 2023 but it never happened. Once all of EMG is back, then the enforcement would occur. Otherwise, it’s all an excuse to fire someone who isn’t meeting RTO guidelines. Fully remote will just get severance

Jealousy is a complex, often destructive emotion frequently described as the "jaundice of the soul" or a form of self-weakness that magnifying small issues into truths. It stems from fear, insecurity, or a desire to possess, often poisoning relationships and clouding judgment.

I'm going to be completely honest, I do not care about remote workers at this company anymore.

I'm so miserable with RTO after 3 years of this at this point that I'm actively rooting for Juan to force you all back in here to suffer with us.

I hate you all. I hate your smug little faces in zoom meetings dialing in from the Pacific Northwest, or Colorado, or New England. I hate how you all complain about every little thing when you're living a life of luxury while every move we make here is tracked and we're treated like cattle. I hate you and I hope you're all fired or forced to come back.

Go ahead and report this post I don't care anymore.
