Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Big Optum Insight Layoff

All areas in Optum insight are impacted, each team is looking at a 10-20% reduction. 10/30 is the date, but due to the number of people, may have to do it in waves.

Newsflash anyone in office or remote in north america is a target. They most of the time will pay severance/ hush money to make you go away nice and clean.

Strategy: UHG/Optum conduct layoffs in small batches over time (e.g., monthly rounds since early 2023) and distribute them geographically to avoid hitting 50/500 per site or state in any 30-day window. For example:
• 2024: 524 jobs cut in California (triggered WARN filing there), 129 in Ohio, 800+ in New Jersey—none in Minnesota, where no WARN notices were filed despite rumors of cuts.
• Remote workers (common at Optum) often don’t count toward site-specific thresholds, as their “single site” is a home office (not meeting the 50-employee minimum). This creates a “loophole” for distributed workforces.
cuts. They can be fired at anytime without having to notify anyone or even pay any severance. The idea is to outsource all remote jobs to India or Philippines.

@bx sounds like we work on the same team. I work with this rag who has the worst rbf 24/7 and thinks she knows everything. She was brought over after a rif so basically recycling garbage!

If you are still able to login at 1 in the afternoon on 10/30 you are good for the next round of the hunger games usually. If nobody in your workgroup got hit will be just another day. If someone got hit in your direct area might be a survivors meeting same day

@a2 that’s a good question, how would you know if you’re being laid off by 10/30 for OI?

Does anyone know about ECS? Everything is on fire and the management has no clue up from down as they are too busy delegating everything to their pet friends that will never say no. These people are not what I want to work with, they sit at their computer 24 hours a day with requests come in through teams at 11pm, unreal! They must have no lives or families they care about to work this much additional or they just su-k at time management. My team is the worst, run fast away from ECS teams.

@a4 sure, but I don't understand where the numbers or "every team" aspect is coming from.

@a3 They're all about the AI (Optum Real) which will reduce the # of employees needed
