Changing departments is the only way to get a promotion
"You must have missed the memo: Being an unquestioning sycophant is the #1 quality needed for career progression. It is not hard work. It is not talent. It is not critical thinking. Actually critical thinking is a deterrent to career progression."
Amen!
The only way I ever got a job progression promotion was to complain about not getting one... after literally every single person in the department had gotten one except for me. And even at that, there was hesitation like I was tainted.... not just overlooked.
@skg+1vQ4uCBM - You're absolutely right about critical thinking. That was a strength of mine and I was tossed aside like a piece of trash.
What do you mean I don't know anything about ia...
Because most managers here are only concerned about themselves. They will do whatever it takes to self-preserve, especially at the cost of their underlings. This is particularly true of L4 and L5. It's not fun to watch otherwise normal people become self-serving sycophants. All I can say is, act in kind. Be here only for yourself. Check the boxes. Don't make waves. Don't do extra. This is the Elevance way.
All you need to do is not complain and tell your manger how great they are. Then after 5 plus years in your current position you might be lucky to get a promotion. Career progression is a joke here. Managers that want to mentor are a rarity. With all the rifs it’s only going to get worse.

Love my new job as AI Director!
