We all worked in office pre-covid!
Yeah, and pre-covid we didn’t have record high inflation and gas prices weren’t this high either.
So, instead of being a leader in the industry, he is being a follower by saying other companies are RTO. The mission and culture did just fine when Covid hit and it’s even better today. So this “we need to enhance mission focus” is just total b/s and everyone knows it.

Just another out-of-touch multi-millionaire executive. I used to work directly with Wayne, though it's been over a decade since I've seen him in person. I used to think he was a nice guy. He had me fooled. I'm not one of those who would say the job changed him. I believe the job revealed the real Wayne.
To the person who says many of you never worked in the office: If you were remote pre-pandemic, you should remain remote. I agree. If you were hired post-pandemic, it's a tricky question. I think the 60 mile rule is bad. 30 miles seems reasonable.
To those who say they want attrition to save money: Maybe. But severance is not required. They could have laid off as many people as they wanted and given them precisely zero dollars. So while the layoffs are bad, at least they aren't doing that.
Finally, no one asked me but I would have made things remote optional. If you want to work in the office, you get your bonus. If you want to stay at home, no bonus. If half the people stay at home that leaves twice the bonus for the in office workers. But again, no one asked me.
When will everyone realize they are doing this because they literally don’t care about the employee experience. It is not a priority for them anymore. They will continue to make things uncomfortable and difficult so employees will separate voluntarily, much cheaper option versus paying out severance packages.
Many of us did NOT work at the office pre-Covid. I think he forgets that somehow.
You're right, life is short. That's why we don't want to waste time getting up earlier, commuting to and from an office, and wasting away our lives sitting under fluorescent lights and being micromanaged by EMG who are giving themselves 100%+ bonuses.
There's a difference between "being negative" and calling out genuinely poor decisions.
True, people love the benefits and the pay until they are asked to come back to work. If whining about USAA makes you feel better, cool. It just seems to me that if you put half the effort into finding a job you like (or doing your current job well) you wouldn't be so bitter. Life is short. Too short to be so negative all the time. Find something in life that makes you happy and do it!
LOLOL, on one hand, everything is total cr-p at USAA, we all hate it, it's so terrible. On the other hand, "The mission and culture did just fine when Covid hit and it’s even better today". Everyone is complaining so much about how terrible the company is but in reality it's all about going back to the office.
He also made less than $5M pre covid, I don't think he's gonna go backwards in that...
