Do we allow a 3-week or 4-week PTO in Dec?

No logic or sense to use PTO when on the perpetual cusp of layoffs.
After I burn my floating holidays and 'personal' days, I typically took a week off the week between Christmas and new years.
In addition to taking a week off on weeks we had a holiday. I don't have to go back to India, so I don't have to take a huge block of time off.

Really depends on your group, in technology I know many that take all of December off every year
Used to be very common in IT with freezes on place. People from overseas would take opportunity to go home for few weeks
This is heavily dependent on your job/LOB. I usually just take a bunch of time off at the end of the year that I never got around to taking earlier and can’t carry over beyond 40 hours. It’s often like 2 or more weeks PTO, but I can do so easily because things are dead anyway around the holidays in my LOB/role so I’d just be sitting there twittling my thumbs anyway.
@sfm+1uxBnmiI And that’s the crux. Auto-approve, sure, but that doesn’t mean a manager can’t go in and reject it if there is a staffing issue and you’re last one requesting the time.

Depends on your Business area. Consider taking half day PTOs during this time mixed with full days if you think you'll get pushback for 3-4 week OOO
Pro tip: submit your EOY Holiday PTO in Jan/Feb.
I earned it, I take it every Nov/Dec - at least a week at a time. PTO is one of the few reasons I stay at the h3ll hole. I'm taking it when I want. We can discuss with HR if needed.
Anything over 10 business days in a row requires upper manager approval. At least in WIM
Ideally, you shouldn’t have waited this long to request it. I personally jump right to the PTO calendar as soon as it opens to block my time. Most mgrs will not allow EVERYONE to be out during that time frame, and it’s inconsiderate of you to wait this late. If you were on my team and waiting until now to request it, my mgr would tell you to pick other dates.
I don't know about non exempt employees but at least for me as an exempt employee any time I submit a time off request in workday, whether a couple days or a couple weeks, it auto approves. your best bet though is to give your manager a heads up to make sure they have no concerns and ultimately make sure you have some form of coverage if needed.
You can request whatever you want. Doesn't mean it will be approved. If it's not, you might lose a bunch of your PTO.
Like most things, it's up to your manager. But don't be surprised when your manager gives you a WTF response
Management can say something about it. Read the employee handbook. Even for salaried people it says that PTO must be approved. You can't just take whatever you want whenever you want and your manager can say no. If there is no coverage or if it will put stress on the team the manager can tell you that you cannot be gone that long.
don't scr3w your teammates.... and as a mgr I tell people in September to take vacation earlier so the last 3 weeks of the year aren't total wipeouts.
Why would you take it at the end of the year? If you're covered by any of the freezes your workload is extremely low. It's the worst time to be burning PTO. If you're salaried it's a strategic mistake.
Regarding consecutive weeks. The only people who will care are the ones who have to carry the load for you. Management really can't say anything to you about it since there is no policy against it.
I used to regularly take 3 weeks at once every year for an international vacation. I work with multiple people who have taken 3 weeks at a time just this year.
