Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Question for Management

Since no one feels comfortable asking questions during the Town Hall meetings without fear of retribution, maybe a question here will warrant a Stream post or some other response.

The culture at Windstream is sick. People are are angry, bitter, and burned out. Yet, management's only response is to RIF and force us remaining to work more and more without any kind of reassurance things will get better. We see the Culture Committees attempts to create positivity, special groups to make people feel included, but these are superficial. Your absence of real hope in the pep talks is more powerful than what you're saying. We want to work and we want to work hard, but we have no hope of being employed here in 6 months. We fight this fear in our own minds to stay motivated because you lack the ability or desire to inspire.

You have created this sick culture of people willing to work but made less effective because of your tip toeing around what everyone knows and talks about in small groups, but everyone in upper management pretends like isn't happening.

What will you do to help restore the people here or will you continue to ignore the fear you foster by your real silence and continue to apply the plastic facade that you use because you don't really know what you're doing?

You said it. "They don't care" they don't and they won't. Say your Truth here say it there it makes no difference. They don't want to hear your divel. They are not surrounded by yes men sicophant by accident, they hired them. They don't care one iota for you except that you dumb rubes might buy into the new ipo or not move your 401 funds out of their junk stock. You have to look out for you, and if you can do better elsewhere then do so. Otherwise eat sh!t. Welcome to corporate America.

The Captain told an employee the doors not locked . That's how things are there. No F's given. I've talked to several people who interviewed there and laughed at the salary. If the W wants good knowledgeable workers. The Boss has bis saying "the doors not locked". Many people who apply and current workers at the W have theirs "F you pay me."

You're right, we both know that the Town Hall's are a dog and pony show. But, in their supposed interest for transparency this post was intended to speak truthfully to the top who are surrounded by "yes" men and don't know (or don't care) about the condition of a major component of the "machine" that is under their care.

I'm also fully aware of how the corporate world works in that you can't just speak your mind without some sort of negative recourse. My primary responsibility is to provide for my family not "show them who's a man" in front of my coworkers. That's juvenile and irresponsible on anyone's part.

The “Town Hall” meetings are nothing more than than a platform where these guys can hear themselves talk and pat each other on the backs, then laugh later about your morale over drinks.

Their pockets full of cash needs to be flashed in front of an audience to make them feel important. More important than you. And where’s the best place to do it? Well, right in front of all the people who are afraid of you. Afraid to ask the real questions on everyone’s mind.

Tired of being held captive during these meetings? Step up and be a man. Ask the real questions they won’t answer.

And a business is like a machine. Which includes the equipment, processes, and the people who maintain the equipment and processes. If your machine isn't functioning properly you've got a pile of sc-ap metal headed for the dump.

The question is, will the new lords want a short term profit (sc-ap metal prices) or a longer term ROI and restore the machine's proper functionality.

I have defended this place for years...just can’t do it anymore. I need the paycheck but my family life has suffered greatly here. I am looking...1st decent offer and I am out the door...sh1t... any offer is more like it

I'm won't argue and say I won't leave: who knows – I might "cash out" (aka severance), hopefully I'll find another good offer, or there's a chance I'll outlast another CEO... another bean counter engineering the accounting instead of letting engineers operate a network.

Yeah. How much they can haul before the new board figures out the racket...or gets in on it.

"It's the network, stupid". Sadly, they think their pockets are a better investment.

Surrounded by "yes" men, HR, and legal counsel and you can get away with anything..
all the while strangling real progress with ineptitude.

Good post and yes it is a BIG facade. They are hauling in their money before Elliot drops the hammer and they will. More importantly they have proven themselves for years. Now no offense to anyone, you all know this. This is why you post here and rant and rave because you can't do that to the top 5. My advice is leave and please don't respond saying you have nowhere to go. It's not a prison. The boys don't own you like they think they do. Prove them wrong.

"Since no one feels comfortable asking questions during the Town Hall meetings"

Actually they are a 'Town Haul Meeting' - on how much money the LR 5 can haul away before they are gone
