Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

How to save a good employee?

I know a wonderful employee who has a wealth of knowledge who is under a director that is an absolute tyrant. It’s going to hurt our area if she leaves because our departments rely on one another but I’ve heard her complaints and she’s miserable and has started applying externally. Those who are brave enough to speak up about this “leader” have complained but the company isn’t doing anything about it. Our department would happily take her but we don’t have an opening. I’m desperate here. How can I help to save a good employee?

OP here, she is going to leave the company. Thank you to those who gave supportive replies and advice. And to those of you also leaving who have been with the company a long time, I wish you all the best too and I am sorry for how you are being treated.

@qzug+1nojq4oa They will never listen to us and address the real problems until those like us are gone. You did everything you could have done. I myself complained and it went nowhere. I am miserable and I’m not complaining about the same thing twice. My teammates don’t want to speak up because they are too scared. Perhaps had they spoken up senior leadership would have taken me more seriously. Seven years down the drain. I am leaving too. I wish so badly that I could know who you are because I am going through what you are going through and I really need someone to talk to that will listen. Just know you are not alone.

@bnsr+1nojq4oa Thank you for the reminder that that those of us with anxiety aren’t needed at Centene. I am under bad leadership. I reached out to my senior leader. I needed help. Do you know what it took for me to go through to get to that point? The help was short lived. Things were okay for a bit then they went to he-l again because my manager resented me for speaking up. What did senior leadership do? Pep talk with the bully leader. The bad management I’m still under… And things are getting bad again … senior leadership would rather pretend there is no problem. I’m not reaching out twice. And you know what? It’s okay. It showed me what I needed to do.

I just applied to a new job to a company who is interested in me. Over ten years at Centene down the drain.

Hey senior leaders, here’s a tip. When good, hardworking employees reach a point that they reach out to you directly… LISTEN TO THEM!!!! Stop promoting bullies to leadership!! Stop sending stupid surveys. Reach out to your trusted employees. TALK to them and listen to what they have to say!!!! For the love of God at least get them out from under the bad leader!!! And I know that no one reading this cares because it does not affect you but it affects me. You want those bad leaders? You got them. I’m out and I’m done.

If was you I emailed Sarah London and the new CPO and tell the there is a cultural issue, or that your boss is not culturally aligned, the word out there is that London is the culture queen and if you have some distaste for someone they will take it as a cultural issue and they will fire that person or leader on the spot, it seems crazy but that is how things seem to be working in Centene

That situation is unfortunate but honestly no one's cares unless affect them directly, it is worse in this company where the senior leaders don't value much hard as much as likeability, culture and other subjective things that are much of personal preferences than anything else.

In today' corporate and more in a big company like this is all about politics and who you know and not so much about merit and hard work, the tone start at the top and with the clown of CEO there is things will get nothing but worse

To the original post, that's a tough situation. Ideally you'd reach out to a senior leader you trust (yours perhaps?) that's at the same level as the "tyrant" and see if you can get him/her to help with the politics of the situation. The other path is making a business case for needing another resource (her) under your team. I know that's a hard sell right now, believe me, because you need buy-in from senior leadership. I wish you could ID the problem leader even if only by cn #. You'd probably be surprised who checks in on these forums and how they use the insight.

To the I start every post with "CENTENE" poster, you are just ranting about executive leadership moves that are above your paygrade. You've offered nothing of value to the original post. Go post your distaste publicly if you're so confident you know what's best for Centene. Maybe they'll make you CEO so you can fire all the awful leaders ruining the company.

CENTENE current CEO is a fraud, she got rid off of the best people who should have been CEOs like Layton and James Murray because of her insecurities, now that is surrounded by a bunch nonsense roles like customer experience, or people officer, communication officer but the operators who are trying to move the company forward are treated like sh-t. I give that company one or two years before gets either bankrupt or acquired

@hzmt+1nojq4oa having to hire someone else is a problem when there is an open position because a good employee with a lot of knowledge was ran off because some people in leadership don’t deserve to be there. I’m lucky to have a good leader but I’ve seen what bad leaders can do to an entire department.

CENTENE is being filled with a bunch of incapable leaders, starting with the CEO who doesn't have a plan to move the company forward . A lot of instability and hearing the departure of some of the best senior leaders the place will get nothing but worst

I watched the work ethic of one of the best hardworking coworkers I’ve ever seen deteriorate day by day as the result of a bully in a new leadership role they had to report to. He left the company because of it. It’s not fair but it happens. Encourage her to get out. No one should have to be miserable. They can hire someone else to fill the open spot.

CENTENE is following the same steps of Budweiser with is woke culture, their CEO thar was a beacon of hope has turned into some functional id--t as suspected, they don't care about supporting the operation and people who are trying to pull off results, they a network of spies just to enforce "workplace happiness", and the company is not doing anything of value for its members.

The hand off from Neidorf to Sue was poorly done, huge mistake.. Now the consequences ,a company that has a bunch of incapable leaders, from HR to Customer Experience,, what a joke, the few good ones rumors has it they being cut off for the "sake of peace and harmony" "culture is paramount". Run from that place if you can

Sarah London who does not have the skills for the job and it's there just for mere luck, only cares about DEI, doesn't matter if you work hard and try to make a difference "culture" and " image" is all that counts, it is the new tyranny against those have a work ethic and really care about the company. This is a sinking ship

CENTENE is is bed with the radical left, their CEO has not merit to be in the job and with her message of DEI has created a culture of fear and oppression where performance does count anymore,
the CEO , or Sue, McGinty or London however they call her, had no clue on what she is doing , well, what can you expect from a poet and fail filmmaker who never ran a health plan, so all she has to talk about is DEI, Disability and all type of non substance as if she would care about people but all that she cares is about using the private jet for her personal and getting rich raking $15 millions on the back of the most needed and complex healthcare population in America, that ship is sinking and the ones on top are the worst of the bunch, don't care sh-t about you all they care is about milking that company. Do a favor yourself and find a better place

@4lmr+1nojq4oa absolutely agree about those without confidence being a risk. I am so sick and tired of hearing about employees with “anxiety”. Just another excuse! Quit already!!

Just quit and find another job. Remember you are just a number and can/will be replaced so don’t be loyal.

An employee that can’t keep confidence is a risk to the company and to the employees they serve.

HR & co-workers are not your trusting friends, they work for the company and companies aren't your friend either.

The relationship between you and any employer should be purely business and transactional, both in give and take.

Speaking from experience and that of most of the 3000 "laid off" in 2021, if she goes to HR, or her Manager to complain, she'll be on the short list the next time they decide to cut loose with a "layoff".

You shouldn't be speaking on her behalf. Instead of complaining to others, she should speak to her own manager, HR, etc.
