Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

New Emerging Technologies within the organization, I’m excited are you?

Chevron is ushering in a revolutionary era with the integration of emerging Indian technologies to support our plants and facilities. Our new Engineering and Innovation Excellence Center (ENGINE) in Bengaluru is a prime example of this monumental shift. This state-of-the-art hub is leveraging advanced engineering and digital solutions, combining the best of global expertise with India's remarkable talent. With an unprecedented investment that spans billions of dollars, ENGINE is set to redefine our operations and optimize everything from geotechnical analysis to process monitoring for a safer, more efficient energy future.

What makes this transformation especially exciting is the way these emerging technologies are bridging traditional energy operations with digital innovation. Imagine real-time data streaming, digital twins of our refineries, and predictive maintenance driven by artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. These innovations not only enhance the reliability and efficiency of our facilities but also drive down operational risk and promote the shift toward lower-carbon energy solutions. The blend of engineering excellence with digital transformation is redefining how we operate on a global scale and empowering our workforce to tackle tomorrow’s challenges today .

Beyond the technology, this initiative is a celebration of collaboration, diversity, and forward-thinking culture. It highlights how Chevron is tapping into new pools of local talent to fuel global innovation—a synergy that resonates with every employee and contractor across our worldwide network. This is not merely an investment in technology but also an investment in our people and our future. As we all witness and contribute to this exciting transformation, it's clear that this is a journey we’ll be proud to look back on for years to come.

What next? India successfully landing a spacecraft on the Moon.

The unenrollment process Incident was not caused by an Indian, it was an experienced contractor in the USA. The person used the correct process and the script (written by SME employee) ran amuck, the bigger problem was the inability to recover the credentials which was caused by the experienced SME's that were employees of Chevron.
I agree with you on the transition to the ENGINE and low cost countries, but not all problems are related to Indian people.

ENGINE is a joke.
Today an application went down completely today because the low cost Indians erased the WellView database that it connects to by accident. Same type of sh!t that happened when they unenrolled thousands of devices and locked people out of their machines for multiple days last year.

I guess that is a good way to stop cyber attacks? Make everybody go back to paper and pencil.

The IT help desk is horrible. Scenario: put in a ticket . They bounce it around through a dozen people . No one knows who needs to handle it . They reach out to you via teams at 3 am when you’re sleeping . You send them as much detailed info as possible , screen shots , videos , voice memos, videos. Everything to make sure you get them the info . The next day at 3 am a different person messages you and asks you what you’re issue is. You explain again. It’s now you’re Friday off . They message you at 3 am . By Monday you have a message they closed your ticket because you didn’t respond . And now they’re sending engineering there .

The truth is anyone in India that is considered to be on the "A" team is already in the US. Chevron will get the "B" team as best and I'm not talking about your typical help desk resources. I'm sure we can find highly skilled enginners in India. They have plenty of them. Bengaluru is the IT hub of India with many other high tech companies there like Meta, Apple, Alphebet etc. Why would anyone in tech want to work for an oil company unless they get a substancial pay increase? Then its not really a low cost option.

Chevron is not opening the ENGINE office in India because it's better, they are moving the work to India because the cost is lower. Just wait until the "ENGINE's" staff are drowning in operational problems and they cannot fix the problems.

Well, someone discovered that they can do your jobs better than you can. So there's that.

Yeah, because if India is known for anything it's "safety" and "efficiency".

It looks like it was copied out of a Chevron PGPA announcement for hiring in India to convince workers to come to Chevron and be a part of the whole "Human Energy" mantra.
I believe it was published in India.
Let's hope we can hire "the best of global expertise with India's remarkable talent" because the Indian contractors and employees in the USAS are not world class talent.
