Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Is this level of incompetence common at other big corps?

I’ll preface by saying this is my first job out of undergrad so i don’t have anything else to compare it to, but i genuinely refuse to believe the people at the top of a company this size are THIS incompetent. It has to just be a charade right? Am i totally off base or are they really just this lost? I’m truly shooketh like when did things start going to cr-p? Is this just how megacorp leaders are like everywhere? Sry I’m just venting bc super bummed bc i worked hard to get here and just a few months into my role, now is just constant uncertainty and stress. Everybody vibe is so off now tooo, no hope, its sad :(

@klw, The Gen-Z college grads that I know are mostly quite literate, professional, and write and speak very well. Maybe we travel in different circles.

Read Lord of the Flies. We're all doomed by paying attention to the self we don't have a handle on.

Here's what you'll find as you grow older. Nobody knows anything. Most adults are making it up as they go along. When your a kid, you have no answers and think adults have it all figured out.

They don't.

Welcome to adulthood.

Young buck, Chevron culture is specific. I wouldn’t generalize to all ‘big companies’. Also, the culture differs between different regions. For Chevron, its shareholders are more ‘steady reliable cash’ folks depending on the dividend. They don’t really care about ‘growth’ or ‘industry leading’. It’s more long term viability and capital preservation.

That focus and mindset trickles down into the organizations. Avoid the accidents that put you on the news, drive OPEX down so that you can pass the cash dependably to shareholders, and let’s not do anything that is too risky even though it might not work out. That’s why we’re so focused on benchmarks and being average.

I wish someone would have told me this when I first started, happiness comes from within. If you focus on the negative that’s all you’ll see. You’re very blessed to have such a prosperous job. Try to enjoy it.

Chevron is unique in both good ways and bad. Performance reviews and talent is probably the weakest compared to what i have seen outside - this is in the IT side perspective only. Almost no layoffs yearly and I know young people complain constantly that mid level and senior are “retired in place” or doing “busy work” which is true.

In fact, a recently retired manager confessed gave his low performing people 1 or 2+ and move them out of his team - he said its not worth it w CVX culture to be the “tough supervisor”

I blame this on weak management

I would imagine that a college educated person would be able to communicate properly with written English including spelling, capitalization and punctuation. No college graduate is this incompetent.
I am deeming this a troll post.

Big companies in decline, yes, look like this. Panicked org changes, implementing shallow/trendy solutions hoping something magically fixes things, cratering morale as these things make the day to day worse. We are a company in structural decline.
