If I start a new job soon after being laid off is there any way for Centene to find out? And if the company finds out is there any way it can ask for a portion (or a whole) of my severance back? I have a nice employment opportunity I just don't know if I'm safe to pursue it right now.

My severance contract stated I would have to pay the money back, if employed during my severance. Read your notice carefully!
Exactly! Only have to pay it back and it gets prorated IF you return to Centene. Best case scenario is you get a new job and can pocket the severance!
Say nothing. Post nothing. Just keep it super quiet. You’ll be ok.
People are giving you the wrong information. Reading your contract. The only way you may have to pay it back is if you end up working for Centene again. If not you don't have to pay them back. You can get another job quickly and owe them nothing. Money is yours to keep!
The severance extension happened due to the pandemic, right after Centene purchased WellCare ... they initially gave me 12 weeks ... then called me after the pandemic hit & extended it another 6 months due to the negative impact the pandemic had on the job market
Be careful. They CAN sue you if they find out. My friend had this happen to her and lost the case...had to pay it back and then some. Don’t be greedy.
@qlq+1aoU8Xjl How did you get a severance extension? They contacted you? Or you contacted them and negotiated one? Just curious I didn’t know that could happen.
I had a severance extension due to the pandemic which they said if I found another job it would stop ... I found another job immediately and worked fulltime and collected severance from February 2020 - October 2020 .... they don’t investigate... it s self reported when and if you find another job ... the HR rep emphasized that if I find another job and NOTIFY them it would stop .... that was her way of letting me know that they don’t check which I appreciated...
As long as your opportunity is not at Centene then your severance is safe. Centene doesn't care about your employment status.
