Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

Today's LTL

Our leadership should just leave it at RTO has been postponed. The CDC provides conclusions more often than real-time data, and the company's attempts to interpret the "science" and data are not really helpful. So hey, how about those share buybacks?

Prudential Postpones Office Return, Mandates Vaccine

Prudential Financial has pushed back its return-to-office date until at least October, a spokesperson said.

The company had initially asked employees to return next month, but the recent surge in new Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations has prompted Prudential to postpone the date.

“We are actively monitoring the evolving and dynamic Covid-19 situation and hope to welcome more employees back to the office no sooner than October,” the spokesperson said. “We will continue to evaluate this decision as we approach our anticipated return date.”

In addition, employees who are physically in the office must show proof that they’ve been vaccinated against Covid-19, the spokesperson said. If they are not vaccinated, they will not be able to enter the office.

Prudential planned for its employees to work in the office half the time beginning after Labor Day, The Wall Street Journal reported in March.

The Newark, N.J.-based insurer employed 42,832 people as of Sept. 30, according to its latest proxy report.

Prudential joins companies in other industries that have recently announced delays for their return-to-office timelines as a result of the rapid spread of the Delta variant of Covid-19.

Is Met next to mandate?

I know so many people applying for jobs outside MetLife maybe there won't be any employees left to go into the office by the time they reopen them. John McCallion and Ramy Tadros can use their $6 million salaries to set up a ping pong table wherever they want once the company goes under.

@"Retired via Severance, best thing for my career"

Thanks for the detail information in your post. I think you are spot on, at least for an actuarial group that partner with.

Also, all those 6 month quitters are making life depressing for the low to middle management that has to deal with it. Up high? Not so much.

The writing is indeed on the wall.

Quote: why stock buybacks are a higher priority than rewarding your employees for their hard work when he's on LTL.
==========================================
The average Indian worker makes $397/month as a perm employee/full time contractor. Even if Met paid double the average to get such quality people that keep quitting in 6 months as they do, $800*12 - you do the math. Cheaper to hire 6 offshore to do one on-shore's work and pocket the money. The writing is on the wall about the US worker being replaced. Additionally it's a bit hypocritical to be a US company with so much emphasis of earning $'s on US Payroll Jobs while you farm out your company structure.
I'd hoped that when the pandemic hit and India shut down it would team the US a lesson along with Chinese manufacturing. However the fact that so much of the country is still in chaos for workers and goods tells me we've never changed.
Take the plunge and move on to a company that values your skills. You'll make more money and people will reward you monetarily and mentally.

Simone Biles. When will the pandering stop?

Ha! Simone Biles is an inspiration to "boys and girls" everywhere, is that why you had an Olympic gymnast talk to us at the last LTL? Because you think we are all "boys and girls" who need to be inspired? How about F-off.

Such softball questions. "Will MyPath be in the same language as the country it gets rolled out in?"

  1. What id--t asked that, please fire them.
  2. Why in the world does that question make it to the call other than a softball to eat up time?

@qjk+1cbhNsg2 - They did reward their employees. Mostly just the ones with a "C" or "VP" in their title though.

We'll never know since they can't even manage to get the CIO to come up with a canned justification to employees on why stock buybacks are a higher priority than rewarding your employees for their hard work when he's on LTL.
