Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Quiet quitting is a thing

Everybody should look into it and start doing it. Give Anthem what it deserves.

@OP Quiet quitting isn't really a thing or action! It is doing the job you are paid to do...nothing more a d nothing less.

@vx it’s hard to be successful at this company. Constant reorgs, blind leading the blind, departments blaming other departments for failure, toxic positivity that masks the ability to make meaningful changes, it’s too much bullsh-t on a daily basis to even think about what success could even look like. Quiet quitting is really a good solution.

@12x If you read the definition of quiet quitting, this is not necessarily a negative. This is done for a multitude of reasons and importantly to help maintain a work - life balance and to help reduce or prevent burnout amongst other reasons.

Quiet quitting = slacking off

No one refuses to be successful.

But if you honestly look for it, you may find plenty of quiet firings.

@ry Not true. Seen many a top performer get riffed. It is because the people putting names on riff lust are insecure petty bi--hes. It’s a popularity contest not based on actual performance. That is part of the reason why this ship is sinking. Many of the most knowledgeable have been riffed and we are left with the clueless.

Quiet quitting is a myth, just another BS buzzword.

@ry Well stated and very true!! I personally don't understand why anyone would take this gamble...unless they don't need their job or want to get rif'd.

Quiet quitters are the first to get RIF’d. Play that game at your own peril.

Some of the posts on this thread are quite mean spirited!! Just live and let live! Coming to this site for the first time and am quite taken back by some of the meanness! But I guess that has to do with the looming rifs and related stress and this is kind of an outlet.

@py Well, let’s just change the metrics then. You don’t like doing the work of 3? We can give you an opportunity to pursue other endeavors. That’s the way the upper echelons think.

@ke you lost me on "peers picking up my slack" - we are so short staffed no one is doing that to any great degree - it is not possible - and from a business perspective - you hired me to do xy job - hit a set of metrics - I am doing that - it is NOT my job to do the work of 2 people - hire another person or live with the new level of production. I will help a peer when I can - did you hear me - WHEN I CAN - it is not my responsibility. You pay me to meet standards - I looked at my eval - I see my metrics - I am doing my job - meet standards-

@m0 I agree Work ethic is just a construct. Society is just trying to get you to conform to stuff that doesn’t really matter at the end of the day. Be a good worker or consumer by conforming to certain standards that end up making you feel bad about yourself if you can’t live up to the expectations. Get shamed for wanting to spend time with family instead of putting in extra hours.

Gotta say I am stunned at the number of folks who still want to virtue signal on here about their work ethic and not quiet quitting all the while Elevance is cutting or negating their bonus (but not executives), giving stagnant “raises” and cutting the workforce while loading more on them. If you want to be exploited, that’s your choice I suppose, but don’t judge the rest of us who have enough sense to hold the hypocritical leaders accountable and reduce our stress by not playing the rat race game. Judge elsewhere

Quiet quitting...what a silly mind game. The company will go on fine and could care less if you quiet quit because they will not even know...they will fo on fine while your quiet quitting just puts a strain on your peers to pick up your slack. Either quit outright or do your job!! No, I am not SLT or even close!! I am an associate doing what I a. being paid to do.

@OP Quiet quitting does not hurt or harm the company. The only person getting hurt or harmed is the quiet quitter.
Quiet quitting will not hurt nor harm the company bottom line.

@er I agree. I keep seeing post where people are saying they work 12 hour days. How can you give 100% if you are consistently putting in 12 hour days? It’s not even a question of work ethic anymore , that is just downright abusive. You cannot work that many hours and then tend to whatever personal life you have left. Work ethic is fine but it can also be used against you. You can still have boundaries and a work ethic.

I’ve seen in this discussion comments stating that quiet quitting negatively impacts teammates- however, the same can be said for not holding an abusive and toxic culture accountable and thereby sending the message that the toxic culture actually works and gets results - thereby making it even harder on your teammates in the long run. I say hold Elevance accountable the same way they hold us accountable and only give what you are paid to do, nothing more, and return the same negative energy that their culture fosters- that’s the only way they will learn- when it hits their bottom line.

@b7 I am with you 100% on this! Very well stated. I too will give 100% as long as I am still employed and getting paid to do my job. Quiet quitting in my opinion is child's play...not adult behavior.

i formally quit 3 months ago - best decision I ever made - this place is toxic - the fire drills will never stop. The lack of support from Director and up is getting worse not better. They only care when they have to actually do your work since they can't replace you. The care is only for themselves. They don't miss you - they miss telling you how you could work harder, better, etc.

I quite quit and it feels as great. I will not work more than the minimum, never again to try and be more productive. Since my work is in production, that might actually be felt. No watching for TAT. Will not volunteer for anything. Nothing beyond the minimum requirements.

The company tried to hustle me from the first day I started. I was forced to work above my pay grade. I did the minimum to keep my paycheck until I was able to quit.

My work ethic wouldn’t allow me to quite quit. However, before I left Elevance for the last few years I had adjusted my way I approach work. I quit staying past 5:00 and never skipped lunch. I suppose some people call that quiet quitting but I called it keeping my sanity.

I’m not a troll or kool aide drinker but as long as I’m getting a paycheck I will give 100%. It is my personal work ethic. Quiet quitting not only negatively impacts teammates I like and appreciate it puts control over my motivation in the hands of the wrong people. I’ll look for more fulfilling work elsewhere but will earn my paycheck until I do, not for elevance but for my own sense of what is right for me. They don’t appreciate me. Okay I can live with that. But I can’t live without a paycheck or my own self respect.

Yep. I drastically cut back my energy and level of participation last year, but still do at least 50% more than anyone else in the dept, so still got ‘exceeds expectations’ and that extra 1% raise. AIP was still miserable. But I’m much less stressed now that I stopped doing anything extra.

I have been quite quitting for the last year. It has done wonders for my mental health. Not giving a sh-t about work is so freeing. What is the point when you already know AIP and merits will su-k again for 2025.

100٪!

Every morning as I start my day, I ask myself "how much does senior leadership care about the workers?" Then I adjust the level of care I have toward the job to make sure it's in balance
