Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Optum Real/ APIs

On the UHC layoff thread someone recently shared that Optum Real is being phased out and that the work is being moved back to Super Connector?Does anyone have additional information? When is this going to be announced?

This is untrue. They just renamed to Optum Real 2.0.

@r6 if payers are not renewing OI products and/or we're not making money then we might as well cut the teams and invest in something else like AI slop engagements. If UHC is over a majority of revenue, does it make sense to have sales teams, marketing, support, etc, maybe just cut? If the products are great why give competitors an edge?

UHG Priorities

  1. UHC
  2. UHC
  3. UHC
  4. UHC
  5. UHC
  6. if we can make a ton of money, let's monetize some internal functions, if not, see priorities 1-5

@r4 I didn't know UHC owned any software products. Moving stuff from OI to UHC doesn't make sense since these are products sold to other heathcare comanies. I don't think they would want to be customers of UHC.

new UHC person that owns all Optum product (including OR) is rolling out an org structure that mirrors UHC. It's vague with gaps. I wouldn't be surprised she pulls the whole group over to UHC badging from Optum after a massive layoff of under performing products that aren't relevant to UHC/OH. Unclear if SD will stay after he's demoted to managing tech build teams in India

@pv acquisitions save money on UHC vendor spend. The idea that we'd still sell the products is a bit of a p1pe dream that we've always "struggled with"

same angle with MPPs not making money but ensure provider customers for our products from companies that by contract no longer have a choice. really just a 10 year TCV sale for our RCM offering where we've also "struggled with"

@jw good point. When they bought out the last few masthead Optum acquisitions everyone but UHC canceled when the contract came up for renewal. Optum is and always will be a pass through for UHC. Only people who think Optum is a moat or strategic advantage for UHC’s weaknesses are Wall St. bozos and people paid a lot of money by UHG to say such things.

Leadership thinking that other payers would want to be part of Optum Real’s multipayer functionality… ridiculous that anyone thought that would be successful.

Another blunder. Another meaningless reorg. Another BS marketing campaign. Many products and teams were broken up because “Optum Real is going to make this redundant”. Welp how did that work out for you. Thanks for ki-ling working projects in favor of an idea.

@e9 re-orgs are SLT justification for existence. leaders/teams in this OR re-org will not stay in Kristie's neatly planned boxes. functional crossover will make progress impossible as people carve niches blurring lines around their new roles.

during the chaos, all product build will get outsourced to India, so that will get done at least. failure of OR is covered by RCM 2.0 rebranded "Real 2.0"

Hahaha this is wild if true. We're getting reorged around OR, but if its getting phased out, I guess all the waiting and reorganization is for nothing. Does the fun never end? /s
