Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Manager, Director, VP laid off. Who will decide which ICs to get rid off?

I guess the Directors usually decide who is to be cut from the team. But in my case, my manager, director and VP were all let go recently. There is no one to vouch for my performance.
We keep saying that layoffs are not performance-related, but the last couple of times we got rid of under-performers from our team. So, it did not impact our workload much.

Are we just going to leave it to McKinsey to decide? Just a name on some excel sheet.

Every. Single. Person. above me has been replaced in the last year, from manager, director, area, region, ceo and whatever else is there.

Not a single person remains.

First, it’s obviously not true that layoffs are not related to performance. It’s not the only thing that matters, but of course it’s part of the decision.

They know your mid-year assessment and last year’s review and you probably have internal customers. Your new manager knows something of your performance - he/she is probably from your broader team even if they were not directly in your chain of command until recently.

It’s honestly not a great sign that your leadership chain is so hollowed out. It suggests they may not value what your team does. You may be really good at doing something they don’t care about. But maybe not. Only you know enough to make that judgment for now.
