WARN notice

Curious if Chevron HR filed WARN notice this past Friday

For Hess, Chevron HR filed notice on Friday a week before the cut date - and held the “town halls” at Hess the following Tuesday - hours prior to the notice getting published by the state.

When questioned about what numbers were filed on the WARN notice, the town hall’s HR rep dodged the question and said “we aren’t disclosing those numbers at this time.”

Less than 24 hours later they were published by the state (Wednesday) and the employees ended up learning of the 575 / 830 cut through media outlets.

Is this standard operating procedure at CVX - to be too cowardly to talk straight with employees?

It certainly rubbed a lot of Hess employees the wrong way - the lack of professionalism/courteously, and the apparent cowardice displayed by HR in the town halls.

Does CVX have a pre-firing town hall scheduled for Tuesday this week?

@pm all of what you stated was for Midland and not Houston. There was never a number of job loses posted for Houston.

I submitted AEOI in Houston for Wave 1 in March. Received a notice Chevron complied with the federal WARN Act, stating it commenced on May 28th. For Houston, it announced cuts of around 700 employees. I believe they misstated the number of cuts in Midland, then had to re-file to correct. Incompetency is now the best description for Chevron.

@b5 the warn notice filed with the state was for midland specifically. There wasn't one filed with the state for Houston. This is different than an email that was received by everyone which did not state how many people would lose jobs. You can easily look on the texas workforce commission website to confirm.

I’d imagine a news investigator could clear this up pretty quickly if the question was posed

"the lack of professionalism/courteously, and the apparent cowardice displayed by HR in the town halls."

You have not seen nothing yet.

I remember a warn for round 1. In fact there was a bit of a stink with a misreported number at first.

I'm fairly certain Hess employees have already been picked for jobs that are separate from round 1 or 2.

@a2+1k5507fgn and OP
The state of Texas does not require the public declaration of layoffs under the WARN.
I thought the state of Texas was required then someone posted on this site that Texas does not require the WARN announcement be made public. Only requirement is to file with the state of Texas, but not publicly.
I like the post by the OP, and the answer is Yes, this is SOP at Chevron. They are covering everything with smoke and mirrors because the goal is to move a large portion of jobs overseas. If Hess employees are selected to get a job position it is only so you can document the workflows of your job so the job can be moved overseas.

Public companies aren't "cowardly" . They are required to follow laws strictly and rarely share market moving information outside of strictly required legal paths

@a1 OK - that makes a bit more sense. I googled Chevron WARN notice and saw some law firm soliciting for a class action suit.

I couldn’t spot the Chevron WARN for round one when searching on the states site either.

So are they just going to rinse and repeat that playbook and not file with the state for their cuts?

I'm confused, were you not aware the people in Houston from round 1 never got a number to be cut for the Houston office because it was never filed with the state?
