No Guarantee of Severance In Legg / Miller Org

John Miller’s answer to a very specific question about severance was that he cannot guarantee severance even if you meet all of the severance requirements, your assigned location is more than 50 miles from your current location and you decline RTO (July decision/reply expected for wave 1). So, basically, they want you to make a decision without all of the facts known. Exactly what I was afraid of! Unless you are just totally sick of this failing company, there seems to be no logical reason to decline for wave 1 at this time as you can work until the end of the year, barring another surplus.

Interesting - have everyone accept RTO but don't show up and see what happens. How long would it take ATT to find out that someone didn't RTO? Funny concept.

There was a lot of unprofessional behavior on that call. Hopefully some counseling will conducted with certain employees over the next couple of days.

What kind of counseling would you suggest? How to behave better on your next vague layoff call?

* "Unless you want to stay…it’s best to take severance now…the economy is slowing and next year severance may not be around." *

And I think many want to, but as great as this benefit may be, it's also the thing that holds these people hostage. I got lucky (it's crazy to say, but many feel it's the case now), and simply got surplussed last week. So many want to go head and take the severance and leave, but they're not being given that choice, it seems.

Honestly, I believe it will be fine. They're not giving a lot of info, still, but I believe everyone who otherwise qualifies per the policy, will get it if they decline to move. It's just so crazy to keep this information from people for so long.

"Who is John Miller? Are you talking about the new VP hired from GM? He is too new to answer any questions about RTO or anything related to telecom! He joined like two weeks ago. Send your questions to Jeremy Legg."

Yes, the one from GM. He was running the call. And the purpose of the call was to answer questions about RTO. I don't think the "too new" excuse should apply here. If it's really the case, then why is he running these calls? Should let someone more senior conduct them.

Haha …people talking about behavior on a call when leadership shows zero respect, people should riot the way this has been deployed, burn it to the ground…but no it’s those people that made AT&T that get fu---d because leadership blows billions on stupid decisions.., Never seen anything like this

Hmm. So, @rdo+1nkkRa98 , how would you characterize the rollout of RTO at AT&T so far?

Sounds like you all gave it to him. Good! That makes me happy. Don’t sit there quiet, let them know how you really feel!

@upt+1nkkRa98: I did receive my RTO letter last week and there is no mention of severance in it at all! John Miller who is my executive vice president said severance is not guaranteed. Those are the facts, if you want to down vote me because you don’t believe it, knock yourself out!

I've suggested it before, but I think that everyone should accept the RTO offer and force T's management to react.

We all know this is just a sham by Stink to create a self-selected layoff. If everyone accepts the new offer Stink will be forced to implement a genuine mass layoff, meaning filing WARN notices and abiding by any state laws surrounding unemployment and other worker protections. Shoot, it may even mean bringing back some of the enticements used in the past to have people voluntarily lay themselves off.

Don't do Stink's dirty work for him.

"An additional result was the addition of some new names to the Q3 surplus list."

Right? I think those guys wanted to make sure they can get on that list, in case they don't get severance with RTO.

"Because all they owe you is your paycheck for hours worked and an exit interview."

The exit interview is not about the employee; they ask no questions about why you are leaving, nor do they care. The exit interview is to run down a checklist to make sure the company has retrieved all assets: ID badge, doorcard, laptop, and COU mobile phone. The last step of the process runs a script that removes your access from all company systems. I know, cause I've done it before.

Now, who the heck is downvoting the OP? This is exactly what was said, he's just delivering the message.

I was on that call, and other than that, Miller just danced around every question, with a bunch of corporate noise, and no straight answers. He insisted it's NOT an attempt to reduce head count, but they really do want collaboration. Everyone totally believed that. By the end of the call, people started to revolt, questions got intense, and in the team chat, everyone was just calling them out. Needless to day, the call ended abruptly right on time, while dozens of questions were still unanswered.

This is where we are, people. Sounds like they will ask for an answer to relo, with no guarantees of any severance if you say no. Let's be fair, it's possible that he just didn't know, and didn't want to make any promises, but then what was the purpose of the call? How can they not know what their own plan is? Good luck everyone.

You should be eligible for unemployment if you choose not to move and can’t get a new job by your last day on payroll.

If what you are saying has indeed come to fruition, it is exactly what I was predicting. If you recently got tapped it is a blessing in disguise. Sadly, If you are a management employee they can change the severance policy at any time. Because all they owe you is your paycheck for hours worked and an exit interview.

John Miller doesn’t know or doesn’t want to give correct info. Did you get the RTO letter? It says you will get severance if you meet the criteria for it. Don’t spread fake news about severance.

The only thing you're guaranteed is unemployment, which you should fight for even if the company attempts to claim that declining relocation without assistance constitutes as a resignation (it doesn't).
