Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Our competitor T-mobile just announced a 7% reduction in workforce........

How long before AT&T follows (as usual with everything) and announces an official layoff? I like how T-mobile is man enough to officially announce the layoffs, rather than sneakily try to get folks to leave via RTO.

Key points I took away from the news:

  • cuts would primarily affect corporate and back-office roles, alongside some technology positions
  • T-Mobile would reduce its reliance on external workers (This is an interesting one, as AT&T has more and more reliance on outside vendors)
  • T-Mobile would provide "competitive" severance payments and an additional 60 days minimum of transition leave (This is how it should be done....)
  • "Of the Big Three [AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile], T-Mobile is inarguably winning.

SOOO much more Pro than the letter from "John" with lies and no details and still no real details for MANY months later...oh your manager has all the answers they say and yet the managers don't know their A from a hole in the ground and have zero info.

ATT takes the weasel unethical unprofessional probably very illegal way of cutting jobs, unlike T-Mobile. T is led by egotistical pond sc-m

Are you f-ing kidding me!!!! 7% is NOTHING compared to AT&Ts constant, non-stop layoffs. Multiply that by 5 and you can compare AT&T to T-Mobile when comparing layoffs.

“ T-Mobile is running their company with a lot less workers that AT&T“

Do people not understand that it doesn’t make a lot of sense to compare total number of employees between TMO and T?

It’s discussed as if they should be in line. AT&T is a different and significantly larger enterprise.

Getting rid of unneeded workers. Running a business. Lots of that going around.

Lot of jobs going to India. There is no debate. For every task sent to India there is so, so many kickbacks payed to AT&T L5 and above. The COBC does not apply at that level.

T-Mobile is offering a good severance package. SBC has always been known as cheap with seat of the pants management. Calling themselves AT&T doesn't change or hide that

AT&T has been on a downward spiral for a long long time. The incompetence of leadership is the reason for all the layoffs that occurred prior to this year, and it has been going on for YEARS. So yeah, your snarky comment in an attempt to appease the crowd is completely wrong, as evidenced by the downvotes. Yes, employers are in a current state of reduction, but that's due to the current environment, unlike ALL the layoffs that have occurred since Stankey and Randal took over. Those are complete failures on leadership's behalf, and the current RTO/layoff is just another project that AT&T starts, and will probably fail, just like all the ventures before. They screwed up big on this one, in fact so bad, the head of HR was forced to resign. So what will they do? Continue this layoff trend and blame the current environment. Things are getting so bad, they are forcing rate hikes on our customers, and the complaints are starting to roll in. Guess what happens when people complain.....they switch........you are seeing it now looking at T-mobile's growth numbers. AT&T is failing at so many levels and doing things the WRONG way.

There's far more at play than most of us like to think, and NOBODY is safe, at ANY company.

Sievert's email is pretty clear. He didn't hide anything. Communication of our 'leaders' from Stink, through Weldan to Chad 'the smiling monkey' is full of lunatic's buzzwords as they try to hide own purpose and incapability also.

AT&T layoffs are much more subtle. Employees fade out like stars on a cloudy night. You have no idea someone is gone until you go looking for them. They say it's about "respecting people's privacy" but honestly, it's tricky to plan anything if people just vanish.

You can tell when AT&T will have the next layoff…after they send the email with the ‘highlights’ of the quarterly results google their results to see what the analysts say. The worse the analyst review, the worse the layoff will be.

"Now we are doing straight layoffs with no announcement at all, just drips from every org."

Never thought of putting it that way, but good analogy where they don't even announce, and just do it quietly in different orgs.

This su-ks for those employees but I will give the company some credit for being upfront about the announcement and stating the size.

Here they disguised one round of layoffs as return to office and some id--tic culture initiative (we’re not getting rid of you, you’re choosing not to uproot your life so you can get laid off in a year anyway).

Now we are doing straight layoffs with no announcement at all, just drips from every org.

Don’t know anything about the culture there but it seems like one place has a bit of integrity and the other is AT&T
