Thread regarding Ford layoffs

President Trump said “NO!”

Bill and Farley are reduced to begging…

Ford Motor and other U.S. automakers have asked for relief from aluminum tariffs after fires at a major American factory created supply bottlenecks for vehicles, though the Trump administration so far has rejected the requests, according to a report.

The Wall Street Journal first reported that Ford petitioned the Trump administration for assistance, citing people with knowledge of the conversations.

The government has so far not budged, the report said, adding that the discussions are part of ongoing talks about the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

Trump officials told the companies they had already received some relief from national security tariffs last year, when major automakers were allowed to recoup part of the 25% duties on auto parts, the report said.

@pd

Apparently we cannot do this on Ford name plate alone. Why are we asking for so much Chinese partnership then? We spend enough time listening to you and the company will be stolen out from under us. You appear to be a traitor and on the wrong side here. Hopefully you sleep well at night knowing you helped sell an iconic American company down the road to a foreign adversary.

@pd I was at the town hall at the glass house when Hackett presented the mobility vision. Employees in the audience were looking at each other and whispering to each other wondering if he was of sound mind or just putting us on. One guy asked how would this even be legal as it would require violating privacy laws. The reply was twofold: 1) they were working on changing laws and 2) they would get people to opt in. The audience reaction was WTF? It turns out that most people did not want to opt in and were forced-in without their knowledge.

You are out of touch with what customers want. Customers are not demanding more tech and subscriptions.

You are wrong like most here. Ford becoming tech, software, and data focused is a need to be the leader in the future mobility market that our customers are demanding.

The good news is Ford is succeeding at this mission. The BlueCruise and Ford Pro popularity is clear evidence. The offerings will stair-step increase with the upcoming Skunkworks and Model e products. You will see for yourself before you know it.

Ford destroyed itself with hubris and chasing fantasies.

Ford lost its soul when it decided it wanted to be a data and tech company.

  • Collecting and selling customer data to insurance companies on the hush hush - Not cool.
  • Not allowing customers to view and delete the data they had collected - Not cool.
  • monitoring customers conversations, tone of voice and location to decide what ads to pop up on the infotainment system and features to disable - Not cool
  • deciding to add interior cameras and software to read customers lips and hand gestures and record the data for future learning opportunities - Not cool
  • planned obsolescence of vehicle software and hardware to keep customers on the perpetual lease hamster wheel.

@ek

I'm even more tired of the ones that run Ford. They'll have more of a direct impact on my life then anyone in this administration will.

@f7

The American auto industry as a whole has been sc--wed for quite some time. They put themselves in compromised positions before the trump administration even was in office. If you have more than 5 years left in your career, it's best to exit on your own terms and find a different industry to work in.

Ford can charge a toll (the most beautiful word in the dictionary) by adding specific surcharges or contingency fees to invoices for dealerships and customers to account for volatile raw material costs.

Trump is destroying the auto sector with tariffs. Ford had to pay almost a billion dollars last year in tariffs. What a waste. Manufacturing has been in a recession since he took office and now he's starting new wars. U.S. will be in official recession by end of year as unemployment keeps ticking up.

@dk The EPA was gutted by the Supreme court, not the president, you id--t... If you'd like to talk about basic science, where's your evidence? Oh wait, it doesn't exist. Something I learned in science class is that correlation does not equal causation. These fa-t huffing liberals will believe anything I tell you, anything....

How much more does aluminum cost vs steel? Without the epa, seems like the no brainer is to go back to steel trucks.
