Can the company be held liable if you get Covid19?

With minimal protection for field staff and still running business as usual, can the company be held liable for any technician contracting the virus?

They absolutely can. OSHA would be interested to know employees have nothing preventing them (PPE) from getting covid-19. Yet they are still told to go about their daily workloads.
We may not be getting all those government contracts after

Good luck getting the 80 hours. The worthless techs in our area jumped immediately, only to quickly find out they didn't qualify. It was merely an empty gesture, as they are not going to approve anyone using the extra 80 hours.

The 80 hours of additional time off is an empty gesture (unless you actually have the virus). Management is already telling us that they can’t allow time off as there won’t be enough coverage to meet the needs of the business. We routinely failed to meet the “needs of the business “ before the Covid crisis because they don’t want to staff our crews to do so, and somehow that’s just fine, but we cannot allow the 80 hours to be used as that’s an expense to the company. The bottom line is the company has zero desire to be a phone company (Jeff has even said so in his company addresses) and doesn’t care about or even want customers outside of the fiber realm. Any comments that are to characterize their efforts or policies as being “good for the customer”, are nothing more than demands made to minimize expenses. The only reason we’re still providing traditional telecom services is to avoid the largely unknown consequences that could be imposed by state regulatory commissions. When was the last time you saw an ad for Centurylink services, other than a junk pop up ad?

"Jeff sent an email this week that 80 hrs emergency pto is available if you get sick on top of what you already have. Bottom line though use good judgment. If restaurants are keeping people out then we shouldn't be in the people's homes. Oh and to the troll running his mouth, F××k off. You are probably management anyway you little b×××h. "

That's all good for the 80 percent working from home to say, the 20 percent in the field and their SRO's etc have a much higher risk. I also would question if they would tell us if there was an infection in our locations. Every Email I have read puts all the business needs first in them and our responsibility for serving them. It's always at the end it talks about our Employees in the network and how important and that they want us safe. Then says we have stuff ordered but do your job anyway for the most part unless it appears to be an obvious health hazard or you are refused entry.

That doesn't even account for the people that rove all over and could have picked it up somewhere and brought it into our facilities using the bathroom or a piece of equipment .

This is not about being lazy or not wanting to do the job I get paid to do. IF you actually read the post and are smart enough to distinguish the question being asked you would not have replied in such an unintelligible manner. Take your pity party to another post and ROCK ON!

Employees need to stand together and say no inside work. The company constantly bends us over and we take it. How about we use their policy against them.

Short term disability might be available if an employee is forced into quarantine.

Probably not. For around 85% of those infected Covid19 will be just another flu. An infected employee that suffers permanent damage would have to prove the infection was contracted while working.
