GBD and commercial marketing are merging. Are more layoffs on the way this week?

This is part of the resource optimization effort. Groups are merged so resources (that would be you) work on everything. Chances are, they will not need the same amount of resources to do the work. In most cases when groups merge, there are layoffs. They are looking for efficiencies. They gave you ai. tools so you can me more efficient. That means you will be expected to do the work of 3 people. This is being rolled out in every company that can afford the investment in ai. I'm sorry to be the voice of doom, but this is reality.

People are not expected to get cut just because the LOBs are combining. PMs, writers, designers, etc (most of them at least) are expected to learn all LOBs. For example, a PM might work on a single campaign that crosses LOBs. There is a LOT of work to be done and the RIFs were mostly financial. The talk of stopping work so that it doesn't exceed capacity is very real. The idea is to bring people who do the same jobs together to find efficiencies. Anyone who has worked on the Flu campaign would get it - one concept sold to marketing leadership, but the Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial, and GRS teams all executed it differently. Zero production/execution efficiency.

So true. If you had to come up with a list of biggest sc--wups the company has made in the last 10 years, I'd nominate the stupid name change for sure.

Does anyone know when news will be communicated to impacted teams? The town hall was very vague.

I hope he does not plan on changing the name at his new company. It didn't go so well here.

Replying to a prior post. After Bill Beck spent millions and millions of dollars mucking up a known established brand…replacing it with a name that sounds like Elephant Health…he’s moved on to Black and Decker. Note to the branding genius…if you have to phonetically spell the name so people won’t mispronounce it…you may be on the wrong track.

Whatever happened to that marketing guy who changed the name of the company which the CEO had difficulty pronouncing?

@ozx+1tYTLhME not only toxic, there are few incompetent leaders as well. They need to go first.

Feel like they’re only doing a reorg in August on such short notice so they can cut a bunch of people without having to give them bonuses.

Don’t know much about this side of things but could commercial just take on all of the GBD work?

It sounds like 80% of staff will be supporting both GBD and commercial now. So I’m assuming many writers, PMs, etc. will be cut when combining the teams?? Maybe these layoffs will be done 8/22?

They should ask for nominations. There are several very toxic leaders in that mix.
