Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Failure of leadership. Failure of courage.

IF any of you had the balls to go to the shareholders meeting and utter 10% of what you say here, maybe the Board would take you into consideration.
So many cowards at Exxon: from the ones at the top failing to do their jobs and hiding from the troops, to the retired-in-place milking every last drop, to the ones clutching their pearls and hiding in plain sight scared to death to speak truth to power.
The golden handcuffs are a state of mind - the trade off for dignity and courage.
You all failed to speak up when they ran this company into the ditch. You didn’t have the courage to report those bad behaviors from your manager. You failed to say no when they asked you to do stupid or borderline illegal stuff. You failed to say: this is a stupid idea, it’s a bad deal, it’s not in the best interest of employees and shareholders.
Accountability starts with us. It’s time to take responsibility.
With all of you, as long as you keep failing to speak up, Exxon is doomed.
#WeAreExxonMobil: a bunch of cowards unable to do what’s right.

@eyd+179vyX0U - Well said! I am a manager as well. The rank and file does not understand how we managers work. They are not grateful that we have carried this company on our backs and generated shareholder value year after year. I say each one of these complainers needs to be PIPed, if not already on PIP.

@ooj+179vyX0U... yeah, you got me. Your rants show you have zero understanding of how managers work. And zero self-awareness. No wonder you only have a lay-off board to yell at after you got PIP’d.

@nxx+179vyX0U - looks like you are an XOM manager that is trying to make pathetic excuses for the management.
The key difference is that XOM leaders lack integrity. If the leaders were just incompetent, employees would have been more forgiving.

Reality check. So... let’s imagine a perfect world where all of you trolls get promoted to Presidents and VPs! Congratulations! Guess what will happen?! Your people will all hate you and think you are all completely clueless and stupid and out of touch with reality. It’s the TITLE, not the people in those roles that get trolls ... so if you think YOU will do better and be a wise and beloved by all leader- you are delusional. Go start your own company and see how many of your people b–ch about your terrible out of touch leadership. It’s universal. Check all the other boards here...

So what is it that you a-hos are saying? Because EM management suppresses free speech and punishes who speak out, people need to continue taking it for fear of repercussions?

Those of you, who are making excuses and questioning OPs., the difference is that you have given up for fear of repercussions. This is fuel to fire and embolden snakelike EM management to continue their ignorant arrogance.

have some balls, you NSI, PIP fear mongers. Shame on you as a collective EM society

Right way to speak up: offer to help, speak with positivity and kindness, bring solutions not problems, when you earn credibility, they listen to you and change happens slowly.

Wrong way to speak up: YELL at leadership, attempt to discredit and disrespect their jobs, basically turn into a whiny jerk... yeah, THAT moves mountains dude!

No wonder you are ranting on a lay-off board...

Now that I've submitted my papers and locked in a fairly decent retirement,
I've gotta come clean.

I was one of the 'retired-in-place' folks mentioned above.
I milked every minute of the day amusing myself for at least the last 5 years.
Observing the 'descent of man' as it played out.
Jabbing and peep-holing it till I had a constant grin the past year.
So just enjoy as it plays out.

For me, it has paid out.

FU OP. You have no freaking clue who has done what and who is not being promoted or who is being punished for speaking his/her mind

Naive much? When they "ask" for your honest opinion, they don't really mean it.

Always wise to use one's bullets sparingly! Looks like you've used a few too many magazines, hence NSI ...

I took a bad boss to his boss and later to HR. I went from years with top rankings to NSI. Courage of conviction is discouraged. Don’t ever tell the Emperor he has no clothes, it’s a quick path out the door. Our company’s management lacks many things, but ego and arrogance are not among them.

OP, it Kinda seems you missed the bit about ‘people who had courage of conviction to call management out were PIPed’.
