Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

RIP Hybrid

I heard it from a solid source, the hybrid schedule is going away in order to push passive attrition. Employees will opt to voluntarily leave the company without severance.

I for one will consider this, what will you do?

I don't think you get what is being said when people want to spend a night with DJT. People are so in love with him they will do anything for or with him.

@3uvw The comments about DJT are spot on compared to the alternative. The job he was chosen to do is not about personality or being a creep. It's a role that you need someone in who can stand up to the bad guys in some instances, and push back on established traditions that are failing. He is definitely no where near the best for all that, but the better choice of 2 lousy ones. Get over yourselves.

Reading through the comments I am suprised at the women and men saying they would take DJT any day or NIGHT. Yikes! That's a tough pill to swallow.

Look, just wear your Jammie’s to the office and bring some pictures of your outside windows and maybe the transition will be a little more palatable! Enjoy the commute and just make those hours in traffic be productive.

Where?! Houston doesn't have the space for the headcount it has now to go all in, let alone what it will increase. You're nuts if you think that'll happen next year.

ENGINE was driven by perceived cost savings, they think EXXON/SHELL reaped.Par of the delusion that WE LEAD, when were always following.
WFH ending is driven by old school managers, who think that if they can't see you, your not working. As well as a perception by Senior leadership they have to have a presence/facade to show off. Throw in a little bit of tax breaks to maintain offices in certain areas.

I find it strange the main argument for WFH has the same level of productivity being in the office does. Guess I'm a already a dinosaur at 35 still believing that direct human interaction is a high value key for success. Do they not see the direct relationship between WFH and ENGINE?

No way am I quitting because of forced every day return to the office. I have worked too hard towards a comfortable retirement to allow them to push me out voluntarily. I am coming into the office no matter how infectious I am to avoid giving them a reason to lay me off.

I will not leave unless I have another job that would meet my work needs I have now. Supporting my family is more important than WFH. Now if I can WFH and make the same money and benefits with another company of course I would look into that. I spent a good portion of my career working in the office and would of never dreamed that we could WFH one day, but Covid changed that. I would also say I would of traded not having Covid hit the world so hard to working in the office. In fact I would of came into the office six days a week if that would of meant Covid never hit. Those were basically emergency plans to keep Covid contained, so WFH was needed. I never expected it to last, so here we are.

I don't think anyone has stated they are being forced to come into the office sick. What is being said is that people will choose to go to work sick, much like many often did before the pandemic and hybrid work began, because of the badge tracking scrutiny by leaders.

Before Covid, we were all going to the office 4 or 5 day (assuming alternate work week) and that wasn't that long ago. I agree that WFH is much easier but did everyone forget what it was like?

This is true but it's not happening right away. They will eventually go to 4 days in office with alternating Fridays on still Hybrid. Earliest will be later in 2025, but may not happen until early 2026.

The being forced to come in sick is fake news. Prior to COVID and the WFH and Hybrid days, there were signs posted by office entrances to stay home when sick.

I don't know about you, but I'm not "showing up sick to work" to prove some pathetic point to anyone, anytime, anywhere for any reason. When I'm sick, I'm taking care of myself at home until I am well, just like at any other job. What the heck is wrong with you people?

@crb+1vCN0FaD: don’t get p1zzy at me. Get mad at the executives who thrust this attendance dashboard down our throats. They are actively using this data to penalize anyone who isn’t badging in enough times. They don’t care that you’re sick and anyway that detail doesn’t show up when they review attendance stats higher up than your manager. I felt like I had no choice but to come in because I dom’t want to be a target for layoffs right now.

For those that say "there isn't enough space".... what are we doing Tuesday-Thursday when everyone is required in the office to begin with? Nut up and get to the office... if you moved further away during covid or after, that's on you. Too many people don't work during the Mondays and Fridays to begin with...

Chevron has previously leased office space in the buildings adjacent to 1400. Nothing they do to jumpstart the passive attrition would surprise me.

Likewise, I'll show up sick to work solely because of the badging. They now require supervisors to review and offer explanation for any and all weeks that an direct report doesn't have three swipes -- regardless of vacation, business travel, etc. You better believe this is a deterrent for folks to stay home when they're sick, especially when this is considered for PMP and because it will be looked at come ROM selections. Not doing a damn thing to bring myself undue scrutiny.

Thanks to that attendance dashboard that managers use I came into the office sick. I never would have done so in the past but this is the behavior that these measures are fostering. I can only hope that I passed my plague on to the mofos who are behind these policies.

Here's an improved version of your message:

Those who are saying goodbye with negative comments are probably missing their time with a lil man I man while being away from their wives.
It's understandable—anyone would get a bit grumpy after being away from very close intimate companionship for four years.

Saying “we work better together” while offshoring thousands did jobs is doublethink.

If work from home is a problem, the issue is with supervisors. But since no one here actually know how track and monitor progress, we just shrug, blame the lazy workers, and demand we all get into a giant room - where all of our problems will magically go away.

Good. Hope we can keep 9/80 or 4/10. We are paid enough to show up. If not there are plenty of venders who support us and work longer hours who would love to join the ranks.

Why is this still being given any credence? There is NOT ENOUGH SPACE in Houston or San Ramon for everyone to come in to the office. Leadership has to be out of their mind if they think productivity or collaboration will increase if 25% of the employees are sitting around at the coffee shop or in non ergo spaces hunched over their laptops squinting at the screen and everyone yelling over everyone else to be heard during their meetings. From what I've heard, the last forced moved to Houston by IT, those employees are still working from home because there is no room for them in the office (can anyone verify this is still true?). However, I'd also heard that RM was a supporter of hybrid and maybe that was one of the reasons she is now out.

I love hybrid and I think even if they make us come in Monday through Thursday there should be at least some flexibility - like 2 or 3 days a month exceptions.
However, in this market I will not quit over it. Most oil and gas will be the same way. And many aren't in downtown Houston. I'd rather work downtown.
