Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

After the dust settles......

All TMUS employees will be walking on eggshells, wondering if they will be next. That is a very toxic environment to work in.

@odj+1iuhnKID What makes you think it's mild? Are you just looking at this week's?

TMO will be at 53K employees (or less) come March 2023. They were at 75K at the end of 2021. A 30% reduction of headcount is not mild. They're doing it in phases instead of one swoop for many reasons, one of which is to elicit the psychological reaction you've shown.

Happened 2 years ago too in the first wave of post merger layoffs. After the dust settled management began heavily micromanagement as they were terrified they might be next, they "made sure" they wouldn't be laid off by having reps do all sorts of shady stuff to hit goals, by being unfair and downright mean to some reps. It's a very toxic and awful thing.

Don't think it's anything new. As a percentage of total employees, this one was mild. When the AT&T deal fell through in 2011 it was a 15% reduction of headcount for all of the company just as a start. Greater than a decimation. As the other poster pointed out, go look at the Verizon and AT&T boards and look at their terminations. This economy with rampant inflation, product scarcity, supply chain failures, and smartphone sales dropping means corporate belt tightening as the customers don't have extra money to spend.

I don't know about 'walking on eggshells'. It really shouldn't have been surprising. When 'head count freezes' take place, it is obvious something like this is going to happen. This is the 4th time I've seen this happen at TMo. This was by far the largest due to the size of this merger. Verizon and AT&T are doing layoffs as well. It's just part of working for publicly traded companies. There decisions are based on what's best for the stockholders and not what is best for the employee. Unionization, though it has its downsides, is really the only counter.

The next time a VP or Director says the word "transparency" you need to burst out laughing, to their face.
Ditto for when they say something about your "career" at T- Mobile. Tell them to repeat their lines so you can get their comedy act on video.

That's what Sprint employees have been dealing with the last 20 years. Why not bring it over here too.
