MW has run the company into the ground when it comes to employees.

You all say I am going to get out. I have a plan. I am going to leave. Then you make up some reason to keep staying.

Didn’t pay enough, had to move, wasn’t WFH, waiting on bonus, you will still be here in 20 years waiting on that bonus. You want to make something happen you have to make it happen

Chevron is anything but cutthroat. You can get a couple of promotions by being a savage, but the truth comes out.

It’s toxic because petro engineers backstab and talk sh*t about each other all.day.long. I have never seen a more whiny self entitled and jealous industry group than the engineers at CVX.

OP and @nxw+1fvT8OfH - don’t let the door knob hit you and take your egos with you.

I can’t imagine the thought process of young petrotechs joking the industry. How are the going to make a career?

The toxicity is true. I’m a high performer with recognizable name and am trying to get out. Just need the right offer. The reason for the toxicity is simple. Over 50% of the employees are outwitted and outworked by a minor percentage who get things done. To preserve their place and climb the ladder they succumb to the worst of human behaviors. The fish rots from the head. This culture rots from the top down. Get out if and when you have the opportunity. Until then, collect the gravy check and play nice. The nail that sticks up gets hammered at chevron.

If you're a petrotech you really ought to start thinking about learning some different, more marketable, skills in 2022. Unless you're like... top 15% in the world... you're going to have a real problem starting in about 2030 if you don't find something else.

Good advice, but if you're a petrotech, where are you going to go?

I take it that the OP is a poor performer, thus stating that the company and people are toxic. DO YOUR JOB… then people will treat you with respect.

I agree this is the most cut throat place I have ever worked out. It's not a coincidence that a new buzz word at work is "Teaming" working as a team should be natural at Chevron it is not.

Oil and gas are toxic by nature. We extract, transport and burn poison, spilling and venting some along the way. We foul the earth, water and air. Get over it. People want cheap energy. Welcome to the dark side.
