Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

It’s that time of year again

Early talent season is upon us. Gosh I love looking at those excited young faces. A bunch of kids fresh out of school ready to prove themselves in this fair meritocracy we call corporate America. Eager to jump on those stretch opportunities that the rest of their team aren’t savvy enough to take. Poor poor souls…

some mgrs treat the "Interns" like they were heaven sent! Maybe because of their knowledge of MS products and other technology...
some were great to work with, some thought they were the sh*t

Wells Fargo uses these kids and they get smart to know this is a bad place to work!

Waste of money for many of the same reasons someone else stated in another reply.

But, it looks good and checks a box from an optics perspective. Sad the choices this company makes.

@nrb I will say you need. Perfect combination for these programs to work. You need a young person actually eager to work and learn plus an employee willing to teach. Oftentimes you end up with a young person happy to be making 60k fresh out of school working out of a downtown office plus an employee who has likely over volunteered so they can get promoted making them too busy to teach anything.

The retention goals for these programs is really low. I’m betting they’d consider it a success if let’s say 35% of early talent stays with the company for at least 4 years.

The problem with the program is that these young folks are often just utilized to do grunt work for whichever team they’re placed on, which is fine in the beginning, but there is usually not any plan (or opportunity in some cases) for advancing them to more meaningful work.

As a result, they often jump ship to other opportunities as soon as their initial contract period is over. Considering what these kids are paid for doing very little work during the program, and the hours spent by more senior employees to train them, the entire program seems like a tremendous waste.

Sure there are some exceptions to this, but it’s generally how it goes from my observations.
