Thread regarding 3M layoffs

After lousy 3rd quarter results, more cuts coming

No doubt 3M will publish some Friday afternoon announcement about "rationalizing" its global footprint, meaning 1000s more will see the exit stage right.

Are they any 50+ crowd left who are just hoping for a package to leave. Your wish may become true. You'll finally escape Mike and Monish and their funny farm. Just be sure to use up those everyday points for a 3M coffee mug.

What a clusterf×××

More terminations - voluntary and involuntary are working their way through the internal hatchet machine. Another couple thousand or so will give Roman and Patolawala two things they desperately need:

  1. Artificial bump in stock price to pay a shareholder dividend.
  1. Artificial bump in stock price to collect their ill gotten bonus payment.

Minimum wage…adding to the previous comparison:

On January 1, 1978 (44 years ago) the US minimum wage increased from $2.30 to $2.65 per hour.

As per recent studies in 2022, the Indian average salary is approximately ₹3,87,500 per year which is around ₹32,840 per month. That is the equivalent of USD 422.03 per month as per the exchange rates of May 2022. $422.03 per month is $5,064.36 per year or $2.43 per hour (2080 work year).

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median wage for workers in the United States in the second quarter of 2022 was about $1,041 per week or $54,132 per year (assuming 52 weeks of work per year). Wages were 5.2% higher than a year earlier.

NOTE: This is not apples to apples as one is an average and the other median; however, this information does illustrate why American businesses outsource their jobs. Additionally, these numbers do not include benefits, pensions, and other costs associated with American workers.

Actually, the results were pretty darn good considering current business conditions.

Interesting article in Forbes, Execs stressed but WFH actually improves productivity by 29%......

Future Forum’s report—released by Slack, which makes tools it hopes will serve as a “digital HQ” for hybrid workers—found that workers who have full flexibility with their schedules say they are 29% more productive and 53% more able to focus than those who have no schedule flexibility.

You sound angry. Have you reached out to 3M EAP resources for help?

Personally, I've been WFH ever since I was forced to (by 3M management) when the pandemic started. I find I work FAR MORE working from home. Instead of regular 8-10 hours, more like 12! Sometimes 15. I'm completely exhausted. #facts

They are outsourcing IT jobs to India. So atleast in IT side they see WFH is the way to go forward and cut expenses. More companies doing this and will continue to do unless there are some strict restrictions from government side.

Blaming WFH is hilarious, considering 3M was going downhill well before that started.

Really? You blame Work From Home for all of the issues 3M faces?

At this point I wish for a severance to go away. Have more work than I can even do, and keep picking up pieces from others that have been right-sized to save cost. Sick of all the new people that have been on the job less than 6 months and they are all work from home babies who want to be paid and contribute nothing and WFH every Monday and Friday. 3M has a discipline problem and is lead by Nanny state do gooders that let Work your Way and WFH ruin this company. How about learn your actual job and know what you are doing before demanding flexibility and WFH. This program should have fairness, be merritt based, not an entitlement, or assumed as open ended job perk. This Work your Way is ruining 3M,turning this place into a place of haves and have nots. We are a manufacturing company. You want remote only work go work somewhere else. About time the mananagement realizes it before it is to late.

WFH has been an excuse for a bunch of 3M folks to shuffle off work, play teams tag and avoid meaningful contributions to manufacturing and the products we make. We have more managers that sit in meetings than actual people to execute the work. 3M doesn't just have a leadership problem, they have an entitled culture with a large portion of employees that want to be paid to work 3 days a week and contribute little to nothing to the company. You want your answer for why 3M stock price and sales suck, look around at all of the spoiled entitled self important brats ruining this place from the Top down.
