@nn I am not exaggerating when I say that every time I use AI for anything more complex than “summarize this paragraph,” it gives me the wrong answers. And not just a particular tool or a certain kind of task - across the board. People haven’t really explicitly acknowledged it yet, but AI is already failing. Notice how the days of managers telling you to use ChatGPT have passed, or at least reduced to a fraction of what it was just a few months ago.
Until its accuracy is vastly improved and they solve the hallucination problem, this whole thing amounts to a sh-t-coin like investment scheme. The money is still flowing now, but the flood is nearly over.
Of course, they’re gonna extract as much wealth from us as is possible before they pull the rug - so the house of cards will last quite a while yet. I predict that we will end up with a bunch of half finished power plants and data centers, a nice little 401k reset due to cratering stock prices (prob not a crash, but a good, strong pull back) and a moderate round of mass layoffs (followed by a new wave of low-cost outsourcing). Either that or they’ll conjure up some war or other such catastrophe to scapegoat the failures on. Maybe both!
@nf That is kind of hilarious about AI, you can act for a basic task and it totally fails in reality.
AI can’t even reliably make me a cookie recipe and it’s gonna suddenly successfully wade through the spaghetti that is the Ford ecosystem?
It’s a pipe dream that the Valley sold to eager investors who drool at the thought of robot slaves. The Covid and EV scams wound down, the AI scam spun up. Easy as.

AI is another ruse for offshoring, this time it's the engineering (both product and enterprise) that are being replaced by H1B and actual-India Indians.
